Positive: This small family run hotel is an absolute jewel. Perfect for a few days away from the crowds of Athens. The hotel is fantastic. Lovely comfortable rooms, a wonderful restaurant with fabulous food and views from the sun beds to the mainland to die for. The staff deserve a very special mention as they were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and we all felt entirely spoilt. The shuttle to and from Hydra was super easy and very quick, so you can easily jump into town for an hour or two.

Negative: €1.737 per night is huge, even more than most of the real Four Seasons Resorts, but definitely horrendously overpriced for a Mom-and-Pop 8-room operation where you have to shut the bathroom door to get around it into the shower. At their taverna you can also dine without a shirt, showing a big fat stomach. Definitely tacky. Definitely rustic. I don’t know how I got conned with the price but I really expected much, much more.

Summary: The most overpriced B&B. Definitely no luxury here.

Positive: The experience at the hotel was very good. They greet you at the port and there is a boat shuttle to take you to and from the hotel every 15 or 30 minutes. As we wanted to explore the city, but also have a beach experience, this hotel was a good choice. Their beach service is great as well as the restaurant by the sea. The room had a big varanda and it was big and very comfortable.

Negative: The staff was always very friendly and helpful, but from one experience we had with one of them. When we asked what they would suggest for us to see in the town, maybe some gallery or museu, the reply was super negative and that we should enjoy the beach, like my question would be some absurd thought. I insisted, saying that I knew the island was known for its artsy side, but again another negative and that I should just go to the beach. As much as I did enjoy the beach, it was not all I wanted to see and exactly why I had chosen Hydra! I never had seen someone so dismissive and bordeline rude to a guest asking for local advice. I know what I want to see and do, this interaction was really something I'd never experienced before.
