Due to the recent Murray River flood we have been closed for repairs. While the house didnt flood, services were affected and the garden suffered badly. We are hoping to reopen shortly. Thank you for your patience.
DESCRIPTION
The Bird Nest @ Caurnamont is a modern holiday house located amongst a small cluster of shacks beside the river in a peaceful rural hamlet. Caurnamont is upstream from the historic town of Mannum and just 130 km east of Adelaide. It is easily accessible for a weekend stay. Our house is elevated with panoramic views across the Murray River and ancient sandstone cliffs. It is decorated in a modern Scandi-style and fully equipped inside and out with everything you need for an enjoyable stay.
Spacious accommodation for 6 guests is provided in two queen bedrooms, and a king twin room. There are 2 bathrooms, the master bedroom having an en-suite and the second bathroom a bathtub. Quality bed linen is supplied.
A well appointed kitchen with large island bench flows onto the open plan dining and living zone. Double glass sliding doors lead to a north facing deck where you will find a Weber barbecue and an outdoor lounge setting. A separate, cosy TV den includes a HD television and a HiFi sound system.
The house is fully ducted with a reverse cycle air-conditioner which keeps the house cool in summer and warm in winter. It is plumbed with rain water and has an environmental waste water system.
Outdoors, the garden is landscaped with native plants and lawns which includes an enticing alfresco area overlooking a lagoon full of bird life. A private wooden footbridge provides direct access to the riverbank. Here one can paddle a canoe, swim or watch the sunset while relaxing beneath majestic Red River Gums. We cannot accept ski/wakeboard boats or jet skis due to riverbank erision.
Rates are based on sole use of the house and property for up to 6 adult guests. Extra guest fees apply. Due to its proximity to the water and road, this house is not suitable for very young children, nor pets (there are no fences or barriers). Guide and assistance dogs can be accommodated by prior arrangement. We do not accept jet skis or motor boats.
There is no landline telephone or internet available, but mobile phone coverage via Telstra is good. It is the perfect place for a digital detox with a good selection of books, games DVD’s and music to enjoy!

Summary: We were bowled over by this house and the stunning view across to the cliffs. A lot of thought had gone into details, both practical and aesthetic. The children actually swam in the river ( close to the shore and with life jackets) and we caught ( and ate) some yabbies in the lagoon. After a busy few days where we stayed before the Bird Nest it was good to have somewhere so lovely to relax for the weekend. Maggie, Lisa, Nick, Evie and James.
