Summary: The Old Stables is right in the middle of Lyndhurst so the location is fantastic. We were a large group of friends renting the house for a weekend. It can accommodate many people but the whole place is tired and in need of some TLC. Some of the bedrooms have a very strong smell of damp, others are a strange configuration of beds. One block of rooms have no windows and open ceilings between them. This is great if you are young kids but not ideal for adults. For the amount of money we spent I expected better however it worked well for us as we spent a day at the Isle of Wight festival and so weren’t spending a huge amount of time in the house.

Summary: Overall it was a good stay, this was due to the location of the property. A minutes walk from the town an only a short car journey to the main attractions of the area. For large groups With children this is great due to size of the property, especially the living room an kitchen. However the property lacked cleanliness. Rooms an areas around the house were very dusty and lacked a thorough clean that was agreed. If you’re looking for a plush high end accommodation then this isn’t the one. If your looking for a large space for family’s, at a reasonable price then it ticks those Boxes.

Summary: Our group of 19 adults and 6 children had a fantastic Christmas get together at the Old Stables. The living space and kitchen are perfect for large groups and we were able to cook a big Christmas dinner and have everyone seated around the dining table at the same time - quite an achievement! The location is amazing, right in the centre of Lyndhurst village and with easy access to walks into the New Forest. Bedrooms are reasonably sized and the beds were clean and comfortable. Nice hot showers too! The hosts were kind enough to let us stay later than the stated check out time which really helped us get sorted on the departure day. Would definitely stay here again.

Summary: For a big birthday celebration, seven families hired the Old Stables and were delighted with it. We ranged in age from 7 to mid-50s and loved the huge sitting room with a piano, which became the focus of a concert by the teens. Great to have lots and lots of bedrooms all over the place. Outstanding location for walking into the New Forest - it's barely a 15-minute walk for even little ones to be out among wild horses and gorse. We didn't realize from the listing that the house is in the town itself - we had the impression it was just outside the town, in the countryside - but that didn't turn out to be a problem. We did find the owner slow to respond to questions, but she did usually get back to us eventually and was very pleasant to deal with. A great place for a sprawling, rambling getaway for a big group.
