Caprese Michelangelo Villa | BEAUTIFUL CHESTNUT BARN FOR 2 IMMERSED IN NATURE - PRIVATE POOL - DOG FRIENDLY

2 Bedroom Villa in Caprese Michelangelo, Arezzo

Welcome to the Chestnut Barn, ‘un piccolo pezzo di paradiso’ as the Italians here about say, ‘a little piece of paradise’ nestled in the foothills of Monte Il Castello, Tuscany, just a stone’s throw from Caprese Michelangelo, the ancient cliff-top village and birthplace of the famous renaissance artist and sculptor Michelangelo Buonarotti.
The Barn was once a chestnut drying barn, built in the mid 1800s to dry the harvested chestnuts before making flour. The barn has been renovated to a high standard and still retains many of its original features and charm. The barn is tastefully decorated and furnished and is equipped throughout with modern appliances.
Outside in the garden there is a pretty shaded pergola and a private swimming pool from here you look out on breathtaking views of the mountains of Altuccia and Monte il Castello, some 1400 metres above sea level. The barn sits in a clearing surrounded by 12 very private acres of ancient chestnut groves and oak and beech forest. Secluded but not isolated, the nearest village is only 1km away at the end of a bumpy white communal road.
It is the perfect holiday retreat for those that love walking, cycling, photography and exploring the various hilltop towns and magnificent abbeys and churches that lie within easy reach. We are a gay friendly villa. Alternatively the Barn is an ideal place to escape where you can immerse yourself amongst the stunning scenery and vast array of wildlife. The absence of ambient light is an astronomer’s dream and during the month of July is only rivalled by the natural spectacle created by the fire flies.
The town of Arezzo which is famous for its jewellry production and monthly Antiques Market is one of the wealthiest cities in Tuscany; here you will find the rail link to Florence and Pisa and the rest of Italy.
There are a wide range of fantastic restaurants offering typically Tuscan dishes made with local seasonal produce including Truffles and Porcini, all within 15 minutes drive from the barn.
The barn is very well appointed with all the facilities you could want and expect for a wonderful holiday:
Wireless ADSL Internet. English television is available through the Internet providing you have your own device.
Tastefully decorated open plan lounge with terracotta floor, chestnut beamed ceiling, new pellet stove and access to pool and terrace. The lounge has three large comfortable sofas. There is non-satellite TV with a DVD player and a good selection of DVDs.
The newly created kitchen, with Carrara marble worktops, is extremely well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, espresso maker, microwave, electric oven, 5 ring gas hob, kettle, toaster, food mixer, iron, ironing board, washing machine and has ample crockery and cooking utensils. From here there is a wooden chestnut staircase leading to a mezzanine floor with office area and door leading to the second bedroom, which is furnished with two single beds, chest of drawers and bedside table.
On the ground floor there is a master bedroom with King Size bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe, bed-side tables and hairdryer.
Both the bedrooms and bathroom windows are fitted with insect nets.
Recently updated luxury bathroom, with large walk-in shower, toilet, sink and bidet.
I am afraid we cannot permit smoking within the Barn.
The Barn is not ideally suited to children because of its open plan aspect.
Outside
Outside by the south facing private pool (5 x 10m/16 x 32ft, depth 1.20-2.20m/4-6ft and a ladder for entry/exit) there is a covered pergola with table and chairs and gas BBQ where you can dine accompanied by the gentle and relaxing sound of running water provided by a decorative stone water feature. The entrance to the Barn is via a pretty stone loggia which also offers shade and looks out over the lawn and pine forest below.
The garden is well maintained and is enclosed by a criss cross chestnut fence. There is a herb garden for your use and paths have been cut through the wild meadow and woods for your enjoyment. A wooden gazebo is positioned at the top of the meadow where you can soak up the magical views as your eyes are drawn deep into the Tiber valley and the dusky blue distant hills of Umbria. Here you can watch a magnificent sunrise, the changing colours and the typical Tuscan pink hue which briefly transforms the landscape. A wall of lavender bushes provides a haven for an abundant variety of butterflies. The peace and quiet is only interrupted by birdsong, the call of the cuckoo, and the occasional drilling of our resident woodpecker.

Summary: We had a top week at the barn. Nice accommodation and very friendly hosts. The barn is very remote … there is no one disturbing the silence… Our dog and we loved it .

Summary: Lovely, well maintained house, surrounded by breathtaking nature - great for people who want to have a rest from every-day reality. Michelle and Nick are very friendly, helpful hosts, always available via Whatsapp. Chestnut Barn is like the pictures, really great :)

Summary: We see the Chestnut Barn as a little jewel. The secluded location, the traditional construction and the modern technology (kitchen, shower, toilet, pool, Wi-Fi, light) have pleased us. As well as the possibility to hike directly from the cottage the forest with its deer and wild boars (be careful!). Despite the solitary location, we never felt unsafe due to the construction of the building. Our hosts were very friendly, helpful and always available for us via Whatsapp. We appreciate Tuscany with its various facets. The Apennines region offers a wooded feeling of a low mountain range. More than hilly, very wooded and therefore less hot. We have found the people of the region to be very friendly. They are relaxed and have a high regard for food and drink - in simple inns or restaurants - at surprisingly moderate prices. The location is far from the major tourist crowds. The region is most suitable in extremely hot weather or if you want to avoid the heat of the plains. The access road to the Chestnut Barn off the normal roads is a rocky pothole road. Especially after a rain, the more than rough road can be washed out and possibly critical for a normal (city) car with normal underbody clearance. A car with a slightly higher wheelbase might therefore not be a bad idea. BnR.

Summary: We have just spent an idyllic fortnight at Casa Castagna - If you are seeking perfect tranquility in a beautifully appointed villa, then this is the place! The owners, Michelle and Nick are the perfect hosts, making us feel welcome from the very beginning of our stay. With the choice of visiting the many interesting places in the surrounding area, or just chilling at home by the pool, there could be no better choice.

Summary: Casa Castagno is an absolute beauty tucked away from it all, up its own bumpy little track ! The little chestnut barn is like something from a fairy tale ! A little oasis completely surrounded by Tuscan nature at its best ! To call the view of the surrounding hills spectacular does it an injustice ! We stocked up with provisions from a nearby town and left the chaos of our lives far far behind us for two weeks.Myself and my hubby can not wait to return ! The owners are wonderful warm kind hearted people who done everything in their power to make sure we had all we required and needed to know about the area. We have come home with blissful memories and two new chums. Highly recommend this little hide away !!!!! Adrian & Sven.

Summary: We strayed at the Chestnut Barn in July 2017 for two weeks with our labra doodle Wilson. We were warmly greeted on our arrival by Michelle and Nick and shown round. The Barn contains everything you need, has an excellent new Kitchen and is beautifully restored with lovely furnishing. The Barn is very private! There is really no house near to you at all, so very peaceful, with far reaching views to the snow clad Alps. The long single track up to the Barn continues on over the mountain and was perfect for walking Wilson off the lead, we only ever met one car in the whole two weeks and I am not sure who was more surprised to see who! The Barn has plenty of lawn area, we would have personally preferred more shade in the garden as there was not an umbrella or similar to get under in the heat of the day. The pool is lovely, but not heated, so beware it is surprisingly very cold and would benefit from having a pool cover on in the evening to try and keep some of the heat from the day or preferably to be heated, I was never able to stay in for more than 15mins, you certainly cooled down! There is a supermarket a few kilometres away, which has everything you might need. We visited several places, Gubbio which is famous for its pottery, high up on a hill top up, thank goodness for the escalator, Wilson was not so sure! On the day we were to visit Assisi we went wine tasting with Stephanie (ask Michelle about this) the vineyards were just below Assisi and you had your lunch with that most amazing view of Assisi, we bought some very nice wine there. Assisi was fabulous, lots of small winding alley ways, containing little houses and hidden gardens, as well as the obvious reasons for going there. We were disappointed with Siena, maybe we had just heard too much about it, for us it did not live up to the hype. We visited other places, did lots of great shopping and generally had a fantastic and relaxing time. We found that in the towns we visited that the Italians are great with animals, and we were always served with our beverages plus a water bowl for Wilson. We loved the Chestnut Barn and Michelle was great at organising the wine tasking and finding us a vet for Wilson to visit for his Tape worm tablets in order to allow Wilson re-entry into the UK, the Vet was excellent too. We had a fantastic, relaxing and peaceful time and would thoroughly recommend it.
