Summary: We loved El Cuyo, and the location of this apartment is just perfect. The beach was incredible with hardly anyone else on it during our 6 day stay. We were there with our 5-year-old, and the beach was perfect for her. The water was shallow pretty far out, and she was able to safely enjoy the waves. There was seaweed on some days, but it was easy enough to walk through it and get to clear water. We stayed in the apartment above the ground floor, which was one bedroom with 2 daybeds in the living room. The apartment was comfortable, and communication with Mathias was excellent. I don't think we could have slept without the AC in the bedroom! It was HOT (we were there in October).

Summary: We really enjoyed our visit here. The closeness to the beach was perfect! Magally was very efficient with her responses to any questions we had, and Christian was most helpful as well. Can't wait to come back!

Summary: Decent stay for two nights - we enjoyed the main floor unit with 2 bedrooms and walkout access to the beach. Fairly well-appointed unit with a decent kitchen and spacious rooms. We brought our dog and were charged an extra fee for doing so - fairly expensive, however (by Mexican standards), so be sure to inquire before booking if bringing your 4-legged travel companion. Also were charged extra for the use of A/C - again, by Mexican standards this seemed quite a high cost and we didn't even need the A/C in the end (the fans provided were more than sufficient at the time we were there). The owner graciously refunded us the cost, but it is also something to be aware of prior to booking. The onsite hosts were lovely, easily accessible and quick to reply to our requests.

Summary: When we travel to Mexico, we love to experience more of the real flavors of a country with rich heritage and wonderful customs. Most "tourist" destinations in Mexico offer great vacations, but those resorts could be located anywhere. This property in this location was very special to us. First, it's right on the ocean. You can see the beach right out your window and feel the ocean breeze and hear the ocean waves as you relax inside, Having a 9-year old that loves to swim, the waves were just big enough to play in, but not too big to worry about getting swept away - although I was always in the water with her beyond wading. Unlike many other tourist locations, this beach was comparatively empty. You can walk/jog for miles and not have to step around anything other than the many sea shells scattered all over. And on the several breezy days we had, the kite surfers were out which made the seascape even more lovely with all the vivid colors on display. The village of El Cuyo and the locals we interacted with were all friendly, helpful and accommodating. We didn't feel unwelcome anywhere and really enjoyed the charm that is unique around a small Mexican zocalo. We took a day trip to Rio Lagartos which was quite enjoyable but we could have just as easily enjoyed another day in El Cuyo. The caretaker - Magali (and her husband) were especially wonderful. They helped us with any and all requests including bringing us fresh fish to cook up for some great dinners we made in our own kitchen. The fresh coconuts were a nice treat mid-mornings as well. On our last day, I accidentally drove off with the apartment keys and the caretaker made arrangements to pick them up from us in Cancun. This was above and beyond in my book. The owner, Matthias provided useful information that also made the stay more enjoyable (ex. you might want to bring your own food and pesos from a larger town on your way in). I've read some past reviews and someone mentioned seaweed being an issue. We had seaweed too; however, the ocean remains shallow well beyond where the seaweed might show up so it was a total non-issue for us. Don't let this influence your decision to visit. Overall, we had a fabulous stay. Everything was just right. My travelling companion loved it so much that she started looking at property for sale in El Cuyo!

Summary: We enjoyed our time at this house and in El Cuyo. The apartment was large and clean (we were in the second floor apartment). It comfortably accomidated 2 adults and 2 kids. There could have been some more essentials such as dish soap, matches, sponge, dish towel but it was easy to pick these things up at the store in town and we were told that they would not be provided. The view from our deck was fantastic and the house was actually better than I expected (it is nicer than the photos). This is a perfect place to visit if you want a quiet beach in a small town. Also You should try restaurant amigo de Omar, they were very good. Another tip is the closest ATM is an hour away and no one takes credit cards in town so bring pesos. We hope to come back again and would certainly try to stay in the same spot.

Summary: Everything was as described. I would do this trip again.I would note that it is very important to buy food staples before arriving. Also if you were thinking of alcohol, there is none to be had in El Cuyo.Christian made us wonderful dinners. Magally was so sweet.

Summary: This property is in a great location. To be able to wake up & see the water from the terrace, while sipping your coffee I s breathtaking. The house is comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is very well equipped. The caretakers, Magali and Cristian are awesome. They will prepare the best, healthiest, and delish fish dinner you can imagine. They are very helpful & accommodating. Matthias, the owner, will get back to you right away with any question you might have. There is a caretaker to clean the entrance to the beach. Remember you are at the beach and so the internet service is not always reliable.

Summary: We had a fantastic time in El Cuyo, and this property was perfect. We live in Tulum and wanted to get away from our work and the tourists, and also enjoy having our dogs with us. It was like being in Tulum over 15 years ago. Super tranquil, no hassles, only a few people on the beach (mostly some kiteboarders on the other end) and totally disconnected. The house was amazing. We stayed in the 2nd floor Penthouse 1 bedroom, and it was just wonderful. The bedroom was so romantic and comfortable, more than adequate kitchen, great outdoor terrace, smartly set up indoor living space, and the dogs (when not playing on the beach) loved hanging out in the back shaded garden and visiting with some of the local pups, most of whom don't have homes (one cute little girl even came back to Tulum with us!). It was just what we wanted. It's located in a nice centro spot on the beach, and very peaceful. The caretaker was available for anything we needed. She and her husband were very sweet. We speak Spanish and had no problems communicating and enjoyed a couple of conversations with them. We had them bring a langosta dinner one night, negotiated the price, and it was great. We had brought some things from home, shopped for the rest before arrival, and lacked nothing while we were there. We bought fish from the port, and made them on the fire / grill in back. Don't come here if you expect luxury resort accommodations and services. Don't come here if you want to be surrounded by other tourists (unless in high season). Don't come here if you don't know how to relax. Don't come here if you expect to be in a city with all the amenities of "home." But by all means, come here if you want to enjoy a wonderful vacation and RELAX!!! We'll be back as soon as we can. NOTES: If you travel with dogs, be respectful of their watch and care for picking up after them and ensuring they do not disturb the turtle nests. Our dogs are well trained and we do not let them out of sight more than you would a young child. Expect some bugs. Tabanos and mosquitos are part of the eco-system, and I hate them as much as anyone, but they are part of beach and environment seasonally. Sweep your floor! When staying on the beach, there is lots of SAND (yes, sand! Imagine?)! Just sweep the floor once a day, and/or put a bucket of water at the door to rinse your feet before entering. Even though there's an outdoor rinsing area, there's more sand on the stairs, etc.

Summary: We enjoyed a visit to El Cuyo Hacienda during the first week of December 2013. It was beautiful! The Hacienda was exactly what we expected, clean and simple. We stayed in the penthouse efficiency, which offers an amazing view of the ocean and the sounds of the waves to lull you to sleep. Our host caretakers Christian and his wife Magali were the best! Christian speaks some English and is easy to help with communication. He led us on an awesome guided tour of the flamingo breeding ground and for lunch in Rio Lagartos. Magali prepared dinner for us, tended the efficiency and even helped with laundry! The efficiency offered the basics in comfort unfortunately lack of funding seems to leave some things in less than perfect condition but the caretakers make every effort to compensate for these short comings. We did experience some roof leaking during a heavy rain but safety was never an issue. We enjoyed our accommodations and company. Can’t wait to return!
