Negative: Lighting poor in living room- no good for reading. Kitchen very cosy- if suggested that a group of ten might book all cottages then it would be a real squeeze to cook there…

Positive: Set in beautiful countryside with walks to the Tweed River and easy car or cycle into Peebles. The Barns Library had s wonderful selection of books to dip into. Full of chatacter . Loved the private garden too.

Positive: Well designed and considered with good quality, comfortable furnishings. Brilliant selection of books, and subscription TV services (eg Apple) on the Smart TV. Good quality coffee was much appreciated. The estate is beautiful, and just 10 minutes drive from Peebles which has everything you need for food shopping as well as some nice cafes. As an FYI for anyone who likes to know these things, the 4 poster bed has a very hard mattress and the twin beds are soft.

Negative: Some small maintenance issues - 2 bulbs were out, a tap was wonky, a radiator was knocking and we had to screw the handle back on a saucepan to use it. There is construction work currently going on in the courtyard.

Positive: We started our three month driving tour of Scotland at Barns Library Cottage and it put us straight into Scotland mode. Everything inside the cottage was beautifully presented and in particular I just LOVED the main bedroom. It was a joy to go to bed and to wake up in the morning. As an added bonus, there were snowdrops in flower in the woods on the property! While staying there, we were also able to take a look around Neidpath Castle, even though they were setting up for a wedding at the time, which was very generous indeed. Thank you to Rachel for that, and especially to Lulu, who was able to tell us a great deal about the history of the place. I can't recommend Barns Library Cottage highly enough. We loved our stay which was for five nights and we saw so much of the Borders region during our four full days there. The only recommendation that I would give to others is that seven nights would have been much better to truly enjoy the whole of the borders region but the Peebles vicinity is a great place to base yourself.

Negative: The armchairs in the sitting room could use restuffing and it would have been great if somehow the shower head for the bath in the ensuite could have been used as a proper shower instead. Oh, and some instructions on how to operate the main shower! That had me puzzled for a little bit but I figured it out in the end.

Summary: We had a brilliant stay at Barns Library Cottage.
