Inside, the open-concept layout invites connection whether you’re gathered around the wood-burning stove in the living room or enjoying a meal with loved ones. There are wall-to-wall windows that bring the lake and forest right to your fingertips. Radiant in-floor heating keeps the home warm and cozy, even in the colder months.
The spacious primary suite features a king bed and ensuite bathroom, while glass-paneled doors throughout the main floor lead to a covered outdoor living area — the true heart of this home. Sip coffee on the deck as the sun rises over the reservoir, fire up the grill for dinner with a view, or simply relax with a good book and the sounds of nature all around.
Upstairs, you’ll find two additional bedrooms and a second TV/play area with its own balcony overlooking the lake. This is a perfect space for kids, teens, or a quiet reading nook. For extra fun, head to the garage-turned-game room, fully equipped and ready for year-round use.

LOCATION: In the heart of the Lake Vallecito recreation area, you are 1 mile from the marina, hiking, biking and ATV trails, fishing, hunting, ice fishing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling - the San Juan wilderness area is at your doorstep! Vallecito also has a few restaurants and general stores. Appx 25 miles to downtown Durango and 50 miles to Purgatory Ski Resort.
COOLING: Please note that, like most properties in the area, this home does not have AC, as it is uncommon for homes at this elevation. Temperatures inside the property are easily managed by using fans and opening the windows at night when temperatures drop into the 40s.
NOTE: In winter (November through April), 4WD is required. It is NECESSARY that you have a four-wheel-drive vehicle, vehicles with medium to high clearance and winter/snow tires. Although the roads and driveway are well-maintained, the road leading up to the home is somewhat steep and will be snow packed and slick.
Cancellation Policy: If your arrival date is within 30 days of booking, payment in full is required at the time of booking. Cancellations or changes that result in a shortened stay, that are made within thirty (30) days of the arrival date, forfeit the entire reservation amount while cancellations made more than thirty (30) days in advance of your arrival only forfeit the $300 payment made at the time of booking. For reservations that are at least thirty (30) nights, the cancellation policy above increases to sixty (60) days prior to the arrival date. We do offer travel insurance.

Reviewer Comments: I rented this home because of thee view and location to the lake as well as the patio as we wanted to spend our time outside. The porch was as expected however it was not as clean as it should have been and the most annoying thing was that the propane tanks (2) for the grill were basically empty and ran out the first night as we were cooking dinner. We called early the next day and were told we would not get new propane until at least 5pm. They didnt arrive until 5:45 so we had to change our meal plan again. The propane for the fire table was also very low and the garbage cans were full when we arrived. The rest of the house was great and the only issue we would mention is that the upstairs rooms are small and there isn't a chest of draws for your folded clothes. Aside from these issues we were very happy with our stay.
