Summary: We had one of the most amazing vacations at Ampelos. The property looks exactly like on the pictures. From the highway you take narrow and winding road up and up and up the mountain. Suggest renting a small car and hopefully you are familiar driving a stick shift. We rented the place for 6 of us as we met our friends flying from Germany. We had plenty of space. The house was clean and ready for us. The first time we stepped outside to the deck the view of the Gulf of Corinth and snow capped mountains on the other side was breathtaking. I couldn’t get enough of this place so checked every piece of the property and found that we had lemons and oranges growing in the back yard. So, fresh lemonade for the entire stay was a must. We shopped in Akrata just down the mountain for fresh bread, heavenly tasting tomatoes, feta, home made wine and other items. We cocked and grilled and spend our time enjoying the view. A few times we went out to local restaurants and the food was always fantastic and honestly very inexpensive. The house offers everything you need in your daily life. We did day trips: Athens and Naphlio. We explored the local mountain and searched for waterfalls, we stopped at ancient Corinthian and to see the Corinth canal and did an evening trip to Patra. Few times we drove down to the beach in Akrata by the camping park and had the beach practically to ourselves. The temperature end of May was 75-80 F. Tip, make sure you have water shoes for beaches with rocks and sunscreen when you visit Acropolis. Roula was a great host and was always very responsive to any message we sent. We hope to return to this home soon.

Summary: We chose Ambelos Estate on the third (and last) leg of our Greek journey. We'd stayed in an early 1900's Athens house right in the Plaka on the first leg--amazing; visited the island beauty of Crete on the second, staying in a new perfectly appointed modern villa-fantastic; and in a quest to research my husband's Greek ancestry picked this property near Akarta- awesome. The property was quaint, this was another old house, a Greek farmhouse right out of the movies, with an amazing view. We rarely ate out, choosing instead to cook ourselves, light candles and eat around the beautiful table shown in the picture, it was truly magical. The sunrises were spectacular! There are chickens on the property, a pair of friendly dogs, and several sweet cats. There are fruit trees all around the wonderful patios and the rest of the yard. The house was nicely appointed with nearly everything we needed. I have only one complaint, and a reminder to my fellow American travellers: The bedroom that would be considered the master has a funky/moldy smelling bathroom. I believe part of the reason is because the house is so old, and this particular bathroom has been fashioned from a cavelike room with little ventilation. The first morning there I took a bath, and when I stepped out, several inches of bathwater covered the floor, with water bubbling up from a drain in the floor of the bathroom. I called the owner Roula, and later that morning she arrived to assess the situation. She asked if we'd put toilet paper into the toilet. We hadn't, having already been warned at every property we'd visited that Greeks, like many, many others around the world, don't flush toilet paper down the toilet, their plumbing systems just can't take it. For the rest of the trip the bathroom smelled terrible, not a sewage smell, just this intense moldy, funky smell as the room dried out. Sometimes it was hard to sleep. Interestingly enough, about four days later, the day we left, the bathroom dried out, and finally smelled basically normal (just that slight moody smell) again. Roula was on it and did her best to make the stay as pleasant as possible, and I'm not sure what the actual problem was, but American travelers, be forewarned, don't put toilet paper down Greek toilets.

Summary: The view at the villa was breathtaking. The house had a lot of character and the courtyard was enjoyable. We loved the villages by the beach (Akrata, Krathi, and Aigeira). The food was delicious and not very expensive and the locals were very kind and patient with us knowing only a few Greek words. We loved the many beaches we visited and the location was close to all the ruins we visited (Athens, Delphi, Nafplion, Corinth). We enjoyed picking the fresh oranges located on the property and we're also given fresh eggs. The roosters did enjoy crowing starting at 3 am and there was a chemical smell in the lower bathroom that was not pleasant. Also was not aware that a studio was being rented at the same time and would be sharing the courtyard. The couple was very nice and everything worked out. We just had no idea that the place was not entirely ours.

Summary: Due to road construction and GPS not helpful, it was extremely difficult to find on an extremely narrow and curvy mountain road. We had to call the owner to meet us at the police station, which they graciously did. It was worth it all when we arrived and entered the villa. Beautiful, historic, each spacious room tastefully decorated and a view of the Gulf of Corinth that takes your breath away. The grand multi level terrace added to the charm. The orange trees, lemon trees, and grapefruit trees were lush and fragrant. Remote and high in the mountain, but absolutely the best for relaxing and day trips. Bonus for my daughter and granddaughter were the three playful cats.

Summary: This is a hilltop villa, fully enclosed, with an expansive view. Roula, our hostess, was always accessible and very helpful. She even helped us get some documents notarized and faxed! When we asked about some things in the kitchen, she went out and got us a pannini grill... above and beyond the call of duty!! The local countryside is lovely and we had lots of time to explore during our two week stay. The oranges on the trees were more delicious than any we've ever had! It was wonderful having a daily roaring fire in the large living room with Windows all around! I can't say enough about the view!! It is stunning! It is close to town and accessible to all things needed such as grocery stores, gas, department stores, etcetera. The beach here is really beautiful. The landscaping of the property was well planned and extremely attractive. There was a wonderful inner Courtyard with a balcony and table that was nice to lounge at and be warmed by the sun, when the outer Courtyard was too cool or windy. We stayed here during November into December and encountered a couple big winter storms which covered the mountain tops with snow. They were stunning!
