Positive: We were seeking a small hotel in a small less developed seaside resort for the final part of our travels in Turkey this June. We were very happy that we opted to stay in Selimiye and that we booked 5 nights in the Alice Tatil Evi. The hotel is on the edge of the resort, up a steep paved driveway, and has fantastic views out over the harbour and sea, from the rooms, breakfast area and infinity pool. We requested an upper floor room to get the best views and were very happy with our room ‘Mimosa’, which was on the top floor at the end of the building closest to the driveway, above the pool. There is also a second building overlooking the dining terrace with similar sea views. Each room has either a balcony or terrace. We loved sitting on our balcony with a glass of wine in the evenings – there is a fridge in the room and there are a number of mini markets in the town to buy supplies. There is also a great selection of good restaurants in the idyllic setting around the harbour (about 10mins walk away). You do need to be relatively fit through, to brave the steep climb back up the drive to the hotel, and then up the long flight of steps to the room doors!! This hotel is not suitable for those with mobility issues. Breakfast is included and this was brought to your table each morning and very enjoyable – a continental style platter of cheeses and salad items, a basket of bread and then daily changing options like homemade pancakes, eggy bread, filo pastries. Ali the owner/chef also offered eggs each morning, such as traditional menemen eggs or an omelette, which were all nicely cooked. There was also a good quiet air con unit above the bed which was great, as it was over 30C even in early June. There was also effective WiFi. The pool was suitably deep for swimming and a nice temperature. We would recommend this hotel to fellow travellers who are keen to get away from the big international beach resorts and enjoy a peaceful spot with stunning views.

Negative: The only issue we had was communication, as Selimiye is very much a Turkish resort and we felt as if we were the only the only English tourists in the town – we didn't want to be amongst fellow British, but our Turkish unfortunately was very lacking! In the restaurants in town, the staff would look around in panic to find an English-speaking person to help us, however we got by somehow! At the hotel, Ali the owner had limited English but did his best and he was very kind and friendly and keen to ensure we were happy. However as a constructive suggestion to assist future non-Turkish speaking guests, it would be useful for the hotel to have a printed translated page of information available, advising on details such as breakfast hours (we thought it was from 0830, judging from when we saw other guests arrive at breakfast) and room cleaning (we think this was only on request, as they only cleaned on our 4th day, and our waste bins needed emptying). We left our room key on a hook at reception each day in case it was needed for this, but we were not sure if this was necessary or not. We also discovered on our first night that the bed did not have an upper sheet on it, only a woven blanket type cover. We thought this was a housekeeping mistake at first, but then Googled the question and discovered that this is called a ‘pike’ and is traditional in this area in summer. It felt odd initially but was actually not hot as we anticipated, so in the end we didn’t feel the need to use Google translate to ask for an additional bed sheet, but just to forewarn others from western Europe!

Positive: The location was amazing, and the view is exceptional. Facility is quite new and nicely designed. We have enjoyed staying with my friends, spending time by the panoramic pool and easy access to the town. Breakfast served was so good and the staff was lovely. Mr. Ali hosted us himself, offered coffee when we arrived etc. We felt at home. :)
