Manicured lawns surrounding a beautiful pool is perfectly located to take advantage of all the wonderful sights on our tropical island paradise! Just twenty minutes from Hilo along the historic Hamakua Sugar Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii this property will feel like your own rainforest sanctuary. You will feel a Zen like calm come over you the moment you arrive! Almost 2 acres of beautiful tropical landscaping years in the planning surround a lagoon style dipping pool perfect for unwinding after a day of sight seeing. There are gazebos situated all around the property for BBQing, relaxing, reading and enjoying the serenity of this magical garden. Owner designer Gloria Sawrey a 22 year resident built this home over a 10 year span that turned this old sheep pasture into a wonderful retreat for you to enjoy. The country style house has many beautiful custom details that utilized recycled lumber and was a nearly 80% green build. Years of collecting and repurposing materials, furniture and decorator pieces give this home its truly unique ambiance and instantly welcoming atmosphere. This Eco home supplies its water from a rainwater catchment system, and electricity is supplied by a cooperative system of local supplier, solar farms and a clean coal plant. We ask that guests please respect our efforts in conservation by shutting off ceiling fans and appliances when leaving the house to conserve power as it is very expensive. We are in a rain forest belt of the island that gets over 100 inches of rain per year, most of it at night. There are three beautifully furnished bedrooms with custom closets, loads of storage and seating, 2 with queen beds and 1 with 2 twins are comfortable and stay cool with the cross breeze and huge ceiling fans. There is a fantastic gourmet kitchen with cherry cabinets, custom granite counters, stainless appliances, large center island and huge picture windows to take in the beautiful garden views. This adjoins a vaulted great room, a tree house style formal dining room with a Balinese teak dining table that seats 10 and large entry office for those who need a quite space for work. The entire house is built around a 16 x 32 foot lanai with multiple seating areas, dining table, tiki bar and outdoor kitchenette and can seat up to 20 people. A converted garage apt is available for $100 per night for 2 additional guests. Owner/Caretaker lives on property. Just a 20 minute drive to Hilo with many great stops along the way, Umauma Falls Zip line park voted the best in all of Hawaii is just 3 miles, Akaka Falls tallest water fall in all of Hawaii is 6 miles with Honomu village shops and art galleries too, and Hawaii World Botanical Garden built into the cliffs is just 15 minutes away, along with the famous "Scenic Drive" of old Hawaii with a dozen historic one lane bridges that leads you into Hilo. It's just an hour to Volcano National Park🌋 45 minutes to the West side featuring 3 world class beaches, Hapuna, Anaehoomalu " A-bay" and Mauna Lani, all listed on 20 top beaches in the world! Enjoy superb snorkeling 🤿 , kayaking, bodyboarding, surfing, 🏄sailing, kite sailing, scuba diving, turtle watching 🐢 or just relaxing under a palm 🌴 on these amazing crescents of pearly sand fronting warm crystal clear turquoise 🌊water. ! And yes there is a bar🍹 with great food right on the sand "Lava Lava" Beach Shack. Talk about Paradise! Just an 1 1/2hr to Kona to enjoy the Old style fishing village, harborside shops, art galleries and many restaurants. Be sure to take a look inside the famous Kona Inn to see the stunning mounted big game fishing trophies caught over 6 decades breaking many world records for their size, and enjoy the best calamari sandwich ever made on a beautiful grassy lawn fronting the amazing Kona Sea! You're likely to see our local spinner 🐬 put on a show and if you stay for sunset the Royal Kona has the best view, pupus ( Hawaiian happy hour food) and the most fantastic cocktails🍹you have ever seen. Try the gorgeous Hula Girl or Lava Flow, you may decide to skip dinner entirely! This Mid Century Historic Hotel is a real treasure, once a flagship Hilton now a beloved local favorite and landmark. It's one of the most romantic hotels in Hawaii, like from a bygone era, stop by to kiss your heart throb. 💕 Wonderful music Th, Fri, Sat and Sun🎶 I also recommend the Luau here, ocean front to capture the sunset and if you're lucky the Legendary Green Flash, Maitai required 🌅🍹
The best snorkeling bar none, better even than the Caribbean is just a few minutes further at the Old Keauhou Resort site Kahaluu. It's only 3-4 feet deep but very rocky so this is where you will definitely need water shoes and fins. Walmart Kona has those for $8-10 and are a must for our island.
Hilo offers many types of restaurants, exploring the unique blends of Polynesian/Asian culture, vegan options are plentiful and the gourmand will find plenty to eat. The farmers market is well known for the many exotic tropical produce choices, amazing floral arrangements featuring our indigenous orchids and anthuriums that we export globally and especially unique arts and handicrafts at prices that are too good to be true. This is the best place in the islands to pick up the perfect gift, or special art for that empty space at home and the variety of choices is mind boggling. We have many importers with goods from Bali, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and even the land down under, but our local artists excel at truly unique one of a kind pieces that will commemorate your vacation perfectly. Cancellation Policy -There will be a one night penalty for cancellations. We remove your dates from the booking calendar for months. Since there is only one house to book the chances to rebook those specific dates is only about 50%, thus the fee.
