Buskirk House | 19th century school house converted into a charming two story dwelling

1 Bedroom House in Buskirk

The School House, which was originally built prior to 1815, has undergone a complete renovation, painstakingly preserving its historic structure. There is a charming aura of history throughout the house that is coupled with all the modern conveniences. The appearance of the School House from the outside belies its spacious interior. From the outside, it looks like the one room school house it used to be. On the inside, however, there are two floors with generously sized rooms. On the entry level, the high ceilinged Common Room includes a well equipped kitchen, tables and chairs for dining and a comfy area for lounging. There is also an office/den as well as a full bathroom with a shower. Stairways lead to the lower level where there’s a large bedroom with a queen-sized bed, desk and a wide screen, wall TV. A sliding door leads to a full bathroom with a combination tub and shower. A washer/dryer is installed in a small room off of the bathroom.
The furniture throughout the house (a mix of modern and antique), the art works and oriental rugs are seamlessly blended together. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils, dinnerware, and an assortment of appliances. The stove is set in a center island.
High speed fiber optic internet is provided by Verizon FIOS (300 Mbps).
A blue stone patio allows for enjoyment of the property outside with a propane fired barbecue and table and chairs. Views of farm fields are the prominent vistas seen from inside and outside the house. All seasons at the house are distinctive. In the fall, the vistas of the multi-colored foliage are breathtaking; winter is serene; spring is noteworthy for early blossoms; and in summer nature shows off its bounty of flowering plants.
The School House is available for year-round rental. Pets are welcome, but there is an added fee of $15 per pet per night.
The property is located in northern Rensselaer County/upper Hudson Valley in a rural setting. Summary: Our third time in the little ol’ school was great again. The property has everything you would ever need for a longer or shorter stay. You could live there and feel like kings in the country. All details are perfect. And the surrounding meadows are getting even prettier with new flowers, a terrace and bbq. The great white oak watches over you.

Summary: I simply can not say enough about how wonderful our stay has been. So hard to explain how the integrity of the old school house has been restored while it also being updated, clean and new inside. The home was spotless and has every amenity you can imagine. The host, Connie is a dream to work with and has put so much love and attention to detail into this very special place. Our dog loved roaming the property and was tired out every night. We will definitely be back.

Summary: Intentional home, not a cheap flip for rentals. Truly the most conscientious and thoughtful VRBO or rental home we have stayed at in over 13 years of regularly traveling. A central location for us to visit many communities we were interesting exploring what the hype was all about; NY City, The Berkshires/Lenox, MA, Catskills/Woodstock NY, Southern Vermont. Fantastic kitchen with all the cookware, utensils, and space we needed. Perfectly quiet, very peaceful, a loved historical home and land.

Summary: A very comfortable, well appointed place for 2 people. It was warm on arrival. The kitchen is fully stocked for making delicious meals. The bed is very comfortable. The area, quiet and peaceful.Just general warning if staying in this area during a snow storm : it's on small roads which get plowed less often than the bigger roads and there are chances for a power outage.

Summary: We came for the long weekend, we were not disappointed at all! Connie was the best host, she had everything ready and her “ book of the house” didn’t leave anything to question. We will most definitely come back.

Summary: The photograph doesn't make clear how beautiful the hills, fields, and woods near the School House are, with walking trails on the property. This was our second stay. It's comfortable and amazingly well supplied with just about anything you might need--paper goods, sheets and towels, spices, coffee and tea. Good pots and utensils and nearby farm stands make it a pleasure to cook there. The owner is extremely helpful.
