Positive: The host is so friendly, and really made this stay a great one. The location is quite remote, but that is why we chose it in the first place, it is in a lovely fishing village of about 1000 people in the beautiful seto islands. The house was very old and had authentic Japanese charm, but all the facilities were up to standards. The room was air conditioned, and the host drank with us and helped us cook at night, and made us a delicious breakfast in the morning. His English is alright but he is more than happy to receive foreigners and communicate with translation apps if necessary. We loved this stay and would absolutely return in the future. :) (P.S. make sure to check the ferry schedule if coming from the islands to the east, we almost missed ours and the alternative is a nearly 3 hour drive...)

Positive: Very nice and helpful owner. He even called the ferry company to make sure we selected the correct ferry and interrupted our breakfast to ensure we leave on time. We had dinner together and breakfast at the base.

Positive: The accommodation and the host are exceptional. The accommodation is a traditional and lovely renovated Japanese house in the small village of Ocho. It has a spacious shared living room. The sleeping rooms are Japanese style with Tatami and Futon. We stayed two nights, and the host prepared breakfast and dinner for us which was both very good. The second night we had Okonomiyaki for dinner and ate together with the host. [Note: Dinner is not always available and must be reserved in advanced. There is also a spacious kitchen which we, however, didn't use.] The host is very friendly and takes time for a chat. Although the village is remote it is more than worth a visit. It can frequently be reached by bus from Hiro station which we took at the day of arrival, or by ferry which we took at the day of departure. To get around the islands you can rent brand new electric bicycles at the accommodation. The old town of Mitarai can even be reached on foot within 15min. The village and the islands in general are very quiet. If you don't come with your own car, it's recommended to plan a bit in advance. There is a supermarket in the village. And you can find some restaurants in the old town of Mitarai. However, most do only open on weekends and holidays.

Positive: Beautiful house in a small community. Will come again the next time that I'm in the area.

Negative: The bathroom is rather old and far from the bedroom, but well maintained. It is to be expected for these old houses.
