Positive: We had a truly memorable stay at Shimayado Shiori during our three-generation family trip to Shodoshima last month. From the moment we arrived, the host couple welcomed us warmly and shared the story of the house, while also kindly helping us with suggestions for exploring the island. We had mentioned in advance that we would be travelling with our 16-month-old baby, and the hosts thoughtfully prepared several bedding options for the baby before our arrival. This level of care meant a lot to our family and made us feel immediately at home. We booked dinner one evening and breakfast the following morning, and both were wonderful. The host personally prepared dinner in the kitchen. It was generous, comforting, and beautifully made. Enjoying freshly prepared local dishes in such a relaxed and home-like atmosphere was a special experience for all of us. The house itself is very well maintained, with new and comfortable facilities. We were also delighted to discover several pieces of George Nakashima furniture inside the house, which added a unique and thoughtful touch to the stay. It was a place filled with warmth and care, and we would love to return someday.

Negative: On our last night before leaving, the weather became quite windy. Early in the morning, the strong wind caused the outdoor bamboo blinds to repeatedly hit the glass windows, creating a loud noise. We understand this was likely just an occasional situation due to the weather, but perhaps there could be a way to secure them during strong winds. It was a small and unexpected inconvenience, but it did not take away from the otherwise wonderful and memorable stay we had.

Summary: A truly wonderful stay with warm hospitality, delicious meals, and a beautifully designed home.

Positive: Beautiful old Japanese house, perfectly modernised. Beautiful garden. Close to Tonosho Port, not far from Angel Road. Wonderful meal cooked by house chef, definitely worth doing. All staff were incredibly helpful, helping us organise activities in the islands, and providing delicious snacks and food. Strongly recommended.

Positive: Just an incredible place to stay in Tonosho. Beautiful house with some amazing George Nakashima furniture. The food was excellent and the place is both in a great location and spotlessly clean. But the hosts made the trip incredible. I was injured in an accident and they bent over backwards to help me and my family. 10/10
