Positive: Our host was very good throughout at communication through the Booking.com website. He was there to meet us at the bus stop when we arrived - in fact we missed the stop and got off at the next stop, but I messaged him and he drove to the next stop to collect us. He also offered to drive us into town later if we wanted. The (correct) bus stop for the bus from Gifu is in fact pretty close to the house. It was a very nice experience to be renting an entire little house in a suburban area. It was a little further to walk into town than I had realised beforehand - maybe 15 to 20 minutes, but it is a straightforward route. There was plenty of extra bedding in the cupboard, and we needed it because it was very cold at night. There is a plentiful supply of house slippers and separate toilet slippers for guests to use. There were some basic supplies in the bathroom, but you really need to have your own toiletries. Gujo Hachiman is an absolute gem so we enjoyed our time here a lot, but I might opt to stay more in the centre of town if I were to visit again.

Negative: It was VERY cold when we arrived and the house was freezing. We found that we had to leave heating on all the time in the living room and bedroom. However there was no heating in the bathroom which made washing pretty old-school-uncomfortable. The bedroom was a traditional tatami mat and futon arrangement, so not so comfortable if you are not used to this. I always travel with my own pillow and was very glad that I had.

Positive: Good location walking distance to old town, castle and shrines & temples, and to grocery stores. Good Japanese feel with comfortable living room.

Negative: Kitchen could have more utensils and beds an additional sleeping mat underneath (mentioned these to owner and he said he’d provide them)

Summary: We had a very nice stay in the guest house and really enjoyed our long walks around the town

Positive: This stay was really nice! The host was very welcoming and helpful and was there at check in. The bathroom, shower, and bedrooms were all clean and comfortable and every room had an AC unit. The location is also very nice and close to a convenience store. I'd definitely recommend this stay.

Negative: The kitchen didn't have much silverware, and some of the pots and pans were a bit dirty. Also, the couches in the living room were a little uncomfortable for 6 people. There were alson't enough seats at the table for us to eat. Finally, we could've used some large trash bags; the kitchen cans didn't have any bags in them.

Positive: The house was small but had everything we needed, including a kitchen and two bedrooms (one with a single bed and the other with two beds). It was surrounded by cute little gardens and locals, making it a good spot for a small family or group of friends.

Negative: The house is a bit far from the train station, about a 30-45 minute walk. However, the host was kind enough to offer us rides from and to the train station on the first and last days.
