Positive: Shintatsu-ann was a beautiful building and home with a friendly and charming host who did her best to make us feel very welcomed (she immediately greeted us with tasty snacks and cold tea as well as some handmade origami). In our mix of languages, she gave us a wealth of information about the house and the town. Sadly, we were only staying for one night, as we had come specifically to be able to experience the renowned kangen-sai festival held at the shrine. She gave us plenty of information and even greeted us kindly when we ran into each other out during the festival. I wish we had stayed longer on Miyajima, to get to know the island better, for it has a lot to offer besides the usual touristic sights and purchases that can be done on a day trip from Hiroshima. It was also important for us to support a local business and not a large resort company, so that is why we looked for somewhere hosted by an individual. The home is traditional, and therefore needs to be treated with more care than a typical hotel room, but this is part of what made the experience so special. We also appreciated the very fancy and modern bathtub and bathing area, as well as the well-functioning AC. The futons were very comfortable, and overall we have not a single complaint. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Negative: A bit dark, especially living area We didn’t get instructions on how to use the bath (it’s automatic with controls in Japanese) so we used only shower. I’m sure if we asked we’d get the instructions but we were too tired already.
