Positive: Great location right next to the Daisen trailhead. The bed was comfortable and quite spacious for a cubby style. Food was really good.

Negative: Nothing really although it's worth noting that, since the guests are mainly hikers, some people will get up around 3-4am to catch the sunrise, potentially waking up light sleepers since the bag storage is right next to the sleeping area.

Positive: Beds were comfortable. Staff was relatively friendly. Meal options were nice. Cool location. Good value.

Negative: We are a group of casual travelers/campers that came here to relax, not to hike or anything, just to enjoy the Daisen atmosphere. We have stayed at many similar outdoorsy guest houses and had great experiences, so we were looking forward to this one as well. The whole stay felt restrictive rather than relaxing. No sense of freedom and we felt stuck in the "process" with the other guests, who were all hikers. The place is tightly packed and dead silent, so it feels like literally every move you make is a nuisance to other guests. Hikers get preferential treatment being the majority of guests, which is fine, but it was not so fun for our type of group. There were also lots of extra fees (for example, +3000 yen just to bbq...!). There's no community kitchen and you're encouraged to buy the provided meals that they cook for you. We ate it once, and it was delicious, but I didn't want it two days in a row. Laundry is done for you and costs 800 yen. We asked for it on our second day only to be told that there was no more space. The staff was not very apologetic or accommodating about this, and we had to drive to a coin laundry shop in the town. Obon or not, shouldn't your facilities be able to accommodate all your guests? We bought some local Tottori whiskey to sip on at night only to find out they don't allow your own alcohol. They only sell generic beer and chuhai which are bad for my diet. Was there a bad incident in the past, or are you just trying to make money? I think you should support local products more and understand that not everyone wants to drink just to get drunk and have loud parties. I had a friendly chat with the owner and realized we are very different people. Maybe this experience was just a clash between our different ways of thinking. All in all, It was like being in a college dorm. If you just need a place to crash before and after hiking, it's perfect.
