This beautiful small chateau has 9 bedrooms complementing a large kitchen-dining room, dining room, sitting room, and billiards (6') room on the ground floor. The main rooms are all South facing with large windows on the first floor and French doors on the ground floor. Until recently it was our home so you will find it very well equipped: from the Aga in the kitchen to the high speed fibreoptic internet; Jotul and Clearview woodburning stoves; dual purpose Viessmann solar panels that heat the hot water in the house and the swimming pool down to details like French Scrabble and a well stocked herb and spice drawer! The private garden and 11m heated salt-water pool give you panoramic views over vineyards and rolling hills, 150km to Mont Blanc and the Alps on a clear day in the East and the Monts du Tarare in the West.
Moiré is a small village in the South of the Beaujolais, in an area known as Les Pierres d'Orées, a warm honey coloured limestone with which most of the buildings in the area are built. 35 km from Lyon, it is an ideal base from which to explore as well as being an idyllic spot in which to relax. Villefranche-sur-Saône (access A6) with its fabulous covered food market is 14 km North.
The neighbouring villages include Bagnols with its world renowned château hotel and Oingt, a medieval hill-top village recently classified as one of France’s most beautiful villages. The local market town, Le Bois d’Oingt (3 km) has shops, doctor, vet, bank, post office and a market every Tuesday morning.
Wine tasting is available in the 16th century cellar opposite the chateau, or at any of the 6 other winemakers in the village, locally in the area and at world famous vineyards further up the road in Burgundy.
There are numerous restaurants nearby, our favourites are Le Vieux Moulin (Alix) for quality traditional cuisine; L’Auberge du Château (Bully) for great modern cuisine and L’Auberge Chatoux Fleuri, genuine rustic cuisine on the Col du Chatoux. There are many 1 to 3* Michelin starred restaurants within easy driving distance.
Road and off-road cycling, walking, galleries, music festivals, golf and skiing (Chalmazel 2 h, the Jura and the Alps are all feasible for day trips) are here to be enjoyed.

Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport is 1 hour by car, Geneva is 2.5 hours by car. Marseille is 3.5 hours. Calais is about 7.5 hours. TGV trains come to Lyon and Maçon. There is a private airport nearby at Frontenas for light aircraft.

Summary: A fantastic base for our 10 day World Cup stay. Chateau in a beautiful location with lovely villages to visit nearby. Chateau a little faded and beds not the mist comfortable but well stocked and with a fantastic outside eating area and a lovely pool

Summary: We had an amazing stay at chateau de Moiré. The house was very spacious with a lot of rooms. We were with a group of friends and children (9 adults and 5 little children). There was a lot entertainment for the kids: many games, table tennis, a large garden. We very much enjoyed the large swimming pool with a beautiful view. The location is nice, a very small and quiet town, shops and markets all close by (with car). We had a great holiday and would recommend this place! I would love to come back sometime… Thank you!

Summary: This is a truly beautiful home in a stunning setting, with outlook across the vineyards and hills of the Beaujolais region. The swimming pool is lovely and much needed in the heat of summer. We were a large family who had come to the region for a family wedding - it could not have been a better home for our gathering. The village of Moire does not have a Boulangere so we could walk or drive to Bagnols or Oingt - the surrounding villages are beautiful. The only word of caution! - the adjacent church bells chime frequently - take air-plugs!!!! Our host was very helpful. We loved the place!
