Positive: Friendly helpful staff who made a large family gathering possible, with provision of suitable room, dog and child friendly. Lovely spa area in beautiful surroundings. Breakfast and evening meal was very good.

Negative: Some of the rooms are in need of an update, but were clean. Rooms in the old hall and bar area smelt of drains unfortunately. Lunch in the Grand Cafe was of variable quality.

Positive: The staff are always amazing, i have stayed here a few times. The food is also good.

Negative: Bit crap with ensuring everything you should have in your room is there eg no coffee, toilet roll. Also had a view of a wall. it is also the dustiest place i have ever stayed all the pictures on display are thick with dust so was the phone in the bedroom. This doe not take away from the lovely team of staff that are there but come on get your duster out. i also think they should not charge for the outdoor hot tubs if you have to rotate due to them being over-subscribed. but once again, the staff who work there are fab.

Summary: Lovely place staff cannot do enough for you, beautiful grounds too

Negative: The room only had a single sofa seat rather than a proper couch so felt we couldn’t comfortably enjoy the room or watch the tv, also the restaurant did not service proper meals it was all snack food which was a shame ended up having to order a local takeaway

Positive: Hotel, views and gardens were stunning. Nice to get away here. Bedroom felt luxurious. 1 pleasant staff for every 4 miserable staff. Good access to the Pennines for a walk. The breakfast was nice despite lack of options and food for vegans. Got my cardio in.

Negative: Most of the staff were miserable and unhelpful, & looked like they didn't want to be there. The direct number provided for room service never worked. Lack of options for vegans. The curry was definitely not roasted vegetable. It was microwaved curry (I'm a professional cook, I know!) got to the restaurant at 8:45pm where I was the only customer that initially got told the kitchen was closed (it wasn't, last orders at 9...) Member of staff rolled her eyes when i told her that I had been trying to order room service for the past hour. FOOD NEEDS to be available 24/7 as this hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. But you can't order food between 9pm and 7-8am! And they say the kitchen closes before 9! But you can order booze 24/7?! Very outdated menu, especially for vegans. Needs more items on vegan breakfast. There's 5 items on the vegan breakfast but you get more food items for other breakfasts. Overpriced. Also didn't get the toast and tomato sauce I requested.

Negative: Rooms tired and the first offering (34) was poor - dark and old. Second (67) acceptable, with a view!, but not what we would call good or comfortable. Food at dinner adequate. But the staff at all levels excellent.
