Negative: The lodge was very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, but our experience with the host was disappointing due to repeated rudeness and poor communication. We asked about early check-in, and she declined, which we understood, yet later told our friend that she had confirmed it and was waiting for us, creating confusion. She frequently interrupted our questions, told us to “hold on,” and insisted we read her e-guide, even after we explained we were traveling between cities and needed quick clarifications. The lodge is also quite far from the main road, and the final path is unpaved; our suitcases kept getting stuck in sand and mud, which we were not warned about. Upon arrival, she sent a long list of check-out instructions: washing dishes, collecting towels in a basket we never found, and disposing of trash in a specific bin that was also difficult to locate. With a bus at 9 AM and unexpected cleaning duties, plus the muddy road, we had to call an Uber to avoid delays. Overall, while the lodge itself was great, the host’s unprofessional behavior and challenging access significantly affected our stay.

Positive: The lodge was what we could have hoped for and more. A stunningly presented retreat surrounded by nature. Every detail had been thought of from children’s toys to beautiful kitchenware, everything was very tasteful and made for a memorable stay. The hosts were very communicative and ensured we weren’t at a loss for any questions or information. It was our first time in Utrecht and we can’t wait to return.
