As the closest accommodation to the Islands' renowned Trousers Point Beach, "Walden" finds you cocooned in a private setting of tea tree forest and grasslands with magnificent and all encompassing views of the Mt Strzelecki Range, from almost every room of the house.
Located on 26 acres of "Land for Wildlife", wallabies, wombats and bird life abound. The golden sands of Trousers Point Beach and the start of the stunning Trousers Point National Park Coastal Walk are only a five minute stroll away, at the end of the road. The start of the climb of Mt Strzelecki and access to Fotheringate Beach are also close by.
Walden is ideal for couples, a family or even two families sharing and is only a fifteen minute drive from the main township of Whitemark.
Walden offers you a fully self contained , three bedroom house, with a queen bedroom, a double bedroom and a bunk room, sleeping four. (Eight guests in total.) There is a cosy lounge room with open fire,TV, leather lounge and library. The kitchen has an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and stainless steel and beautiful timber benches. The dining area provides access to a wrap around deck and BBQ. There are two shower rooms, two toilets and a laundry and covered verandah.
A single guest or couple is accommodated in the Queen bedroom. More than two guests gains access to the second and third bedrooms and second bathroom, which are accessed from the covered verandah.
With no close neighbours in view of Walden, you have an intimate connection to nature with space, privacy and peace and quiet while being only 16 kms from Whitemark, where you will find the local supermarket , fuel, bakery, hotel, gift shops, newsagent, and medical services. The supermarket (open 5 and 1/2 days) should be your first point of call after leaving the airport.
Arriving at Flinders Island airport from Melbourne or Launceston, guests will need to have booked a hire vehicle as there is no public transport on the Island.

Summary: As has been said before, the photos don't do Walden justice. The place is just so amazing! From the moment you drive in to the private and secluded property, you feel a sense of calm. The house itself is a wonder - from the fully stocked pantry to the spectacular views, particularly from the main bathroom! There are books aplenty, a great collection of music, regular visits from the local wombats and wallabies, and lots of different spaces for people to chill. But most of all there are those views of Mt Strzelecki and the close proximity of Trousers Point, which was a wonderful place for a swim or two. Can't recommend this place highly enough!

Summary: Walden is a simply stunning property settled into a spectacular location of the Strzelecki Ranges. The photos on the website can't do it justice as it's impossible to photograph the gravitas and wonder of place, inside and out. The ambiance of the home shines through and it was both warm and sophisticated. The views are extraordinary through the cathedral windows and the wooden features give it great charm. The abundance of wildlife and scenery made this holiday a very special one for all 4 of us. There was nothing about this home that has been forgotten. A fully stocked kitchen and additional pantry items, unparalleled main bedroom and bathroom views, comfy furniture, a great music selection and a fabulous library meant it was hard to leave the house. Dragging ourselves away from these delights, we had many walks to several beaches close by in the National Park and the two hardiest of our party had a very satisfying full day's climb up to Mt Strzelecki. Night time gave us the chance to see wombats, Pademelons and Bennett's wallabies by torchlight. Flinders Island charmed us and we are planning to return in the near future. Thank you for a holiday of a lifetime.
