Visit the stunning Karangahake Gorge! Our bach is located in Waikino only a few minutes walk across the swing bridge to the Hauraki Rail Trail, historic gold mining sites and miniature train. There are glow worms and bush walks on the property.
We are nestled above the iconic Waikino Hotel - Bar & Kitchen, so after your day exploring the area you can grab a drink, a meal and relax!
Waikino is located half way between Paeroa and Waihi, close enough to easily pop into town to explore the antique shops and art galleries or head down to the beach for some time in the sun.
The bach itself has four double rooms and a bunk room and there is an additional three double rooms and a bunk room in two separate buildings available for larger groups or individual hire. Please note in your booking query if you require the outside rooms or would like to book the whole property.
Please note: the bach is over 130 years old (it used to be a miner's boarding house), it has been renovated internally but it's still an old structure with the associated quirks and is very much a 'kiwi' family bach not a new building.
Special conditions:
Deck is not fenced so not suitable for unsupervised children.
If you haven't booked all the accommodation the Shearer's quarters and baby barn may be used by the owners.

Summary: The property was perfect for our get together.13 of us and some of those singles so everyone got their own room. Even the 2 bathrooms were not a problem with that number - 1 inside 1 outside. Bbq area was great for a big family bbq. Spotless and very easy to communicate.

Summary: We stayed in the main home and thoroughly enjoyed the large outdoor areas, sunny deck, large living space and beautiful gardens. Attending a wedding just up the road at the Falls Retreat, we were perfectly situated for our needs and only a short drive into Waihi. We also loved the Waikino Tavern and how it was just a 1min walk down the drive, and the waterfall a 2min drive across the river! A lovely stay, thank you!

Summary: Wonderful weekend with clan Davidson friends. Great meal on the Friday night at the Waikino Pub.One problem was the number for the gate. My advice gave 2 numbers and we went up the wrong drive first. Very clean, comfortable beds.

Summary: We enjoyed the home. It has all we needed for a couple of nights whilst we did the Waikino section of the rail trail. Short walk to the waterfall and train station. Literally across the road from the trail.

Summary: This is a beautiful property conveniently nestled beside the rail trail, pub, river and victoria battery. There are also stunning waterfalls nearby. And being only a 10 minute drive to waihi, very convenient to amenities. The house sits above the state highway so you will feel the larger trucks passing by and if bringing teens you will need to buy them some data. Personally i loved going off grid for a few days.
