South Haven is perched amongst the Eastern escarpment of Barrengary Mountain in Upper Kangaroo River. In a special area of Kangaroo Valley, this Australian colonial home has been purpose built and positioned on 18 acres to capitalise on the breathtaking views.

The homestead consists of two adjacent dwellings, a four bedroom home and one bedroom two-story “Coach House”.

The detached Coach House offers guests upper level air conditioned sleeping accommodation with an ensuite bathroom and sofa bed downstairs, kitchen nook equipped with microwave, toaster, kettle, plates and utensils. A large flat screen TV & DVD player completes the inventory for those wanting some me time. A Juliet balcony upstairs opens up to provide yet another place to enjoy the view.

On entry to the main home, the guest lounge room provides a flat screen TV, DVD player, I Pod dock and large lounge settee to watch the flickering of the slow combustion fire. A variety of DVD’s and games is provided for those lazy days that we all crave occasionally. Adjacent in the dining room, a 10 seat dining setting provides guest comfort complete with a spectacular glass atrium. These areas are fitted with fully ducted reverse cycle air conditioning for guest comfort in all seasons.

A large country kitchen ideal for entertaining is complete with 5 burner gas cook top and large 90cm oven. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine (and coffee) and coffee pod machine for those who prefer simplicity and efficiency. A full inventory comprises crockery & glassware and includes the usual suspects (toaster, kettle, sandwich press) and all utensils, pots and pans. There are 4 bedrooms inside the house, 3 furnished with quality queen beds, built in wardrobes with 1 bedroom a double bed with a cot and change table. All rooms have french doors extending onto the covered verandahs.

Walking outside you can enjoy the benefits of a splash in the 8m pool or use of the separate hot tub.
A 10 seat outdoor setting is perfectly placed to enjoy the views to the Eastern escarpment or the sunsets on the escarpment or a BBQ on the rear deck.
Walking down the front stairs there is an outdoor fire pit for marshmallow toasting surrounded by large grassed areas.

There is sufficient parking for up to 5 cars so don’t stress if you can’t car pool.

The acreage provides extraordinary natural boulders and caves as part of the glacial valley that was formed as well as semi tropical forest areas. Walk to the creek below, meet the cows or just find a rock and sunny spot to sit and relax with a book.

South Haven is the perfect place for one to five couples, a group of friends, or a large family looking for a place to escape and unwind.

Summary: This was my second time at the property and it was even more magical than the first time. The weather was gorgeous and allowed us to make use of all the features… the hot tub, pool and fire pit were all absolutely perfect. The house is exactly as pictured and it was the most calm, peaceful and beautiful weekend away. I love this house and the property. The owners are easy to communicate with and everything was smooth. Love this place.

Summary: The views were stunning and the accommodation was wonderful. The only real drawback was the lack of outdoor seating (in numbers and comfort) for such a wonderful outdoor location. There were seats around the outdoor table but they were rather uncomfortable for prolonged evening chats; there were seats around the pool but really not enough to accommodate 8 people around the pool; there were, once again, seats in the area just above the pool but they, too, were very uncomfortable and; there was no seating available around the firepit. The chairs in the main dining area, while plentiful, were also rather uncomfortable. In conclusion, we thought that Southhaven ticked numerous boxes - the rooms, the amenities, the cutlery and crockery and cooking utensils and... of course the stunning array of vantage points to witness wonderful views... just to name a few - but that, for a place that can accommodate up to ten people, the access for outdoor seating that allowed for rest and relaxation and conversation (and there were 8 of us) was somewhat lacking.

Summary: This property is beautiful. It is perfect for an extended family escape. All the bedrooms were very comfortable. The main living spaces were very generous with plenty of space indoors and outdoors so it never felt cramped. The kitchen was very well equipped with a great big fridge. Bring everything with you as it is a bit of a drive to shops. Very limited phone and internet - but that is really a bonus for a family get together. Pool was cool but perfect! Awesome views. Lots of wildlife - wombats, birds, echidna and so quiet. I would highly recommend for an escape from busy life - it was a completely relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

Summary: The location is stunning, surrounded by beautiful trees, flowers, shrubs. Fabulous view. A lovely country house, spacious, perfect for ten people, with one family staying in the smaller house. Beds, large lounge settee very comfortable. Seating all around the house. Places for the whole family to congregate, or sit individually. Kitchen wonderfully well equipped, and together with bathrooms, generously supplied. The best family holiday we have had, with plenty to do at and around the property. The hot tub and croquet set, wooden toys as well as games a great hit. Would definitely like to come back. Will recommend it to friends. One suggestion would be to supply a bigger rubbish bin if possible.

Summary: South Haven was the perfect getaway for my mums 70th birthday with family. Such a beautiful home and amazing location, we were constantly in awe of how beautiful it was.
