Positive: Decor on the apartment was nice.

Negative: The security camera in the living room made us very uncomfortable. Also the camera on the entrance and the chimes that went off every single time we entered or exited the apartment was also unpleasant. This apartment is in the basement of a house and we expect the owner lived upstairs and was monitoring our every move. The property also claims to offer free parking - this is simply untrue. Street parking is an option however Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am - 8:30pm has a 2hr limit unless you have a permit. We contacted the owner and requested a visitor permit but were told ‘it should be ok’. Clearly that is not very reassuring and a risk we were not willing to take as we didn’t want a ticket or to get towed, so we had to park in paid parking during the day. The parking was definitely one of the reasons we selected this property and saying it is available is false advertising. The other negative thing that occurred was on our arrival. We contacted the owner and advised that we had arrived an hour early (arrived 2pm with check in at 3pm) - he replied immediately and advised that for $USD50 we could checkin one hour earlier. A door code is texted and activated at 3pm - we really didn’t find this very welcoming - not many accommodation places prevent early arrival if the room is available (particularly at 2pm). Along with this text came the extensive list of rules for the property. The majority of it was simple common sense but the delivery of this list was once again uninviting. On departure you get another message detailing all the requirements expected before you go. We left very early and didn’t read it until later in the day but this was when we learned we were supposed to strip our own bed, along with a long list of cleaning requirements and rubbish removal. We had only slept there and hadn’t even use a dish so it didn’t create a problem for us, but most AirBnB’s don’t require you to service the apartment before you leave.

Positive: The apartment was spacious, fully equipped, and somewhat clean.

Negative: For us, the check-in process was not as smooth as expected, as the entry code wasn't sent in advance. When calling them, they told us that the code is in the App and everything has to be done through the App, and they put the blame on us saying that "it is not our fault that you didn't set the App." We had to call Booking to get the code. The apartment was fairly clean, but it was unacceptable to find dirty underwear left in the drawer that had not been removed by the cleaning service.

Positive: Neighborhood was charming with all the well kept row houses with their gardens out front. Very clean and comfortable place with all the essentials (for instance, appreciated the iron and ironing board). Less expensive than most other DC places with 2 bedrooms.

Negative: Too far to easily walk to a metro station or to get coffee. Sofa bed was slightly saggy and lumpy.

Summary: Very clean, good value in nice neighborhood.
