Positive: Our stay at Umarato was simply incredible. The villa was absolutely beautiful, tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable — a true haven of peace surrounded by the incredible nature of Sumba. The location is wonderful, the food is excellent, and the level of service was perfect from beginning to end. What made this experience truly unforgettable, however, was the people. A very special thank you to Bagus, the manager, whose philosophy of both work and life genuinely left an impression on us. His dedication, kindness and way of taking care of his guests are remarkable. The same goes for the entire team, all of whom are from Sumba. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay as special as possible. Unfortunately, I had an accident during our stay and had to be hospitalized. The whole team did absolutely everything they could to help us and make a difficult situation easier. Bagus even came personally to the hospital to support us and make sure everything was going well. This is something we will never forget. Despite what happened, we leave Sumba and Umarato with incredibly beautiful memories, largely thanks to them. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you again to Bagus and the entire Umarato team for your kindness, generosity and genuine care. We cannot recommend this place enough. If you are coming to Sumba, Umarato is an experience in itself — an absolutely magical place with exceptional people. We would come back without hesitation.
Negative: Nothing
Summary: An unforgetable stay in a wonderful place.

Positive: We had a wonderful stay at Umarato Villa earlier this month. The villa itself is simply beautiful. It was well thought out, comfortable and had all the facilities you would need. Staff were always on hand with a smile, and made the experience feel personal and intimate. We also found the restaurant exceptional, with the menu showcasing a number of delicious Indonesian (and Western) options. There was a good amount of things to see for a three night stay here, we rented a scooter from Umarato (as a confident driver - the area is remote and not ‘easy’ not navigate) but the villa has options for tours if preferred. The owner of the villa Edward, a Sumbanese local, has clearly put a lot of soul into building this villa and the community it has created (including the nearby school which you could volunteer at). For a sustainable and conscious/community focussed stay, we would choose this property every time.
Negative: Nothing at all.
Summary: Beautiful, local-owned and run villa with incredible views

Positive: Umarato Villa? 11/10, would totally stay again! I stayed at Rua Room. The room was super spacious and the decor blends perfectly with nature – and yes, there's an outdoor bathtub! Feels like bathing in the jungle but make it fancy 😂 Perfect for nature-lovers like me. Everything was clean and fully equipped – they even had a scale! Super useful when all you do is eat, nap, and enjoy the view (which is... exactly what I did 🤭). Every morning I woke up to peaceful, gorgeous scenery. I'm usually not a morning person, but here I was excited to wake up early just to chill on the balcony and soak in the vibe. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and there were tons of fun activities: archery, bonfires, gardening... and rumor has it a padel court is coming soon! They have also built 3 new villas, 1 bedroom ocean view with private swimming pool. Even though it’s a bit far from the city, there’s no need to go out – the resort has everything, and they provide airport pickup too. Win-win! Honestly, this was the kind of healing I didn’t know I needed. Thank you Umarato for such a fun and refreshing stay – can’t wait to come back! 🌿✨

Positive: It takes about 1.5 hour from the nearest airport. In a secluded area. But when we arrive, we are greeted with such amazing view! Nice property, secluded and tranquil. We are facilitated with full service, and our children comfort is well taken care off. They are super happy because they can harvested their own vegetable to table. They are building new properties, single unit villas with their own private pools and facilities. Perfect for future romantic escape. Not to forget to mention their exceptional restaurant, Umanga'a. We have a top notch dinning experience celebrating our Wedding Anniversary. We would love to going back to Umarato in our future holiday.
Negative: we stayed too short, it should have been at least 3 nights
Summary: secluded, tranquil with excellence service!

Positive: If you’re looking for a special place to stay in Sumba, Umarato Villa is a hidden gem. The villa has an incredible infinity pool that seems to stretch right into the horizon, making it the perfect spot to relax and take in the stunning views. What makes Umarato Villa really stand out is that it offers this luxury at a price that won’t break the bank. Compared to other resorts in the area, it’s surprisingly affordable, yet you get the same, if not better, experience. And the view? It’s worth a million dollars. Whether you’re by the pool, in the hammock, or just hanging out in the villa, you’re surrounded by the beauty of Sumba. The rolling hills, the wide-open sky, and the distant ocean all come together to create a truly unforgettable scene.
Summary: It’s a place you’ll want to return to again and again.
