Positive: Nice villa with a great view in a peaceful location. The staff (Dennis and Shanna) are great and very helpful. We really enjoyed spending time on the terrace and visiting Frenchman’s cove was a real highlight of our trip. We also loved going to the market with Shanna. The drive up to the house is steep but doable in a normal car.

Negative: The villa is relatively small and we were 5 people which meant someone was on the couch. This was fine and we knew this in advance. Dennis and Shanna were super helpful but we didn’t realise until after booking that the villa came with staff. There is an expectation of a tip of around 15% of the villa cost which was communicated after booking. If you are after privacy then you will need to specifically request this from Dennis and Shanna as they are very present (as is their job). The villa is a little tired - for example it is very difficult to access the terrace from the rooms as the doors are totally rusted and could be replaced.

Summary: Nice villa in a remote location.

Positive: The location is stunning. The ambience of the villa is very relaxing and it was always clean. Breakfast on the terrace. was enjoyable, and Dennis’ local knowledge was useful. Shana’s cooking was tasty.

Negative: The overall experience was let down by some minor, but easily fixable, details. for example: lightbulbs need replacing, almost no water flow in bathroom sink (even though shower is excellent), pre ordered breakfast choice not available on arrival (including fresh fruit which is incredulous in jamaica), no drinking water is available at property because it is not on the mains supply so we had to buy bottled water but were not informed in advance, cable tv advertised but not available, and the property would benefit from a toaster.

Summary: Tranquility lived up to its name with a very peaceful, relaxing stay. Just a few areas to improve.

Positive: The view is amazing! The kids enjoyed the pool and we enjoyed eating our meals outside. The staff were kind, friendly and helpful.

Negative: The air conditioner in the 2nd bedroom didn’t work properly. The mattresses and pillows need to be updated.

Positive: Tranquility Villa is a wonderful place. sitting in the hills above Port Antonio with a beautiful view. it’s perfect for those who want to experience a slice of traditional Jamaica. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the outdoor areas and pool are perfect for relaxing The staff are wonderful. Dennis is as present and social or as absent as you’d like him to be, which is what you want from an on-site property keeper. He also mixes a delicious fruit smoothie. Shana is a delight. Her cooking is amazing. I went with her to the local market and the fishermen to get local produce for her to prepare. She also takes great care of the house. Charlie, who drives guests of the property, made my visit memorable. He can read what guests are looking for. In my case, it’s the local experience and so he’s made sure I’ve had that in spades. He’s hooked me up with a great Rio Grande river guide, a Blue Mountain coffee farmer, and a waterfall guide at Reach Falls. I can’t wait to return. six out of five stars for Tranquility Villa.
