Summary: Everything was excellent apart from one issue: payment at check-in. I had my card saved on Google Pay, so when it came to paying for my room, I expected there to be a card reader available. In my experience, 9 times out of 10 hotels have a card machine available for this, and this hotel did have card readers in the bar and restaurant. Unfortunately, the member of staff dealing with my check-in made it very clear that my situation was an inconvenience to her. Rather than offering the option of using a card reader, she made a rather snide comment along the lines of, “How am I supposed to take your payment?” She appeared to expect me to physically provide my card so that she could manually enter the card details into her computer. What made this more frustrating was that on a previous occasion, when staying at the hotel with a colleague, the hotel had simply sent my colleague a payment link, which was a quick and straightforward way of resolving the issue. I appreciate that there may be procedures around taking payment, but the way this was handled was unnecessary and left me feeling uncomfortable. There were clearly other options available, whether using a card reader or simply sending a payment link as had been done previously. It’s a shame, as everything else about the hotel was very good. This interaction unfortunately put a dampener on an otherwise positive experience.

Summary: We enjoyed a one-night stay with our dogs, who were made to feel welcome straight away. Water bowls for furry friends are placed all over the premises. The weather was warm & because our room was first floor, it was a warm bedroom so we were grateful for the fan provided. Although the window of our room overlooked the main road, we slept with the window open & this was fine, as it’s such a quiet area. Check-in was efficient; the receptionist was very polite & helpful. We had some lovely teas, coffee & biscuits in the room. Unfortunately, the sink & bath taps were both problematic. The cold tap in the sink ran hot, unless you left it running for ages, after which it eventually ran cold. The hot tap in the sink was scalding hot. I’m 5’7” & was unable to stand under the shower head over the bath, I had to stoop to fit under it. The bath taps were also very sensitive, in that a minor turn in one direction turned the hot water from tepid to scalding. So there’s a clear problem with plumbing, which we reported. There was a wide choice for breakfast, but the restaurant was very busy with few waiting staff who were run off their feet. So when I asked for a flat white, I was told they could only serve this after breakfast finished at 10am; they were too busy before then. The only coffee served at breakfast was filter. We both chose avocado & poached eggs on sourdough. The toast had no butter, which meant that the bread was disappointingly tough. Overall, a lovely place to stay

Summary: We had a wonderful stay at the Westleton Crown. Our room was great, check in was easy and the staff were super helpful. We had dinner one evening and the food was lovely, staff took care over the gluten free menu and preparation. We hope to return soon

Summary: Excellent stay at this small hotel. Great pub , delicious food, dinner and breakfast. Super friendly staff. Excellent choice for all the delights of the suffolk coast.
