Summary: I stayed here for a night by myself on way to work. Really warm and efficient welcome on a wet and rainy night. I checked into a fabulousy clean and well appointed bedroom with a lovely view down the road. The room had wooden shutter and curtains which really kept out the light and sound and I slept like a log. It was exceptionally clean, lovely comfortable bed and at £42 a night was an absolute bargain. I had a quick glass of wine in the bar and met a lovely fellow guest who stayed there a lot due to work. Shower was powerful, there was a hairdryer, tv and also plenty of tea and coffees available in the room. The owner was friendly, really relaxed atmosphere and an easy departure the next morning. I’ll be back again. Keep up the excellent work. Thanks for letting me stay!

Summary: The room was fine for the price. Parking was on the street behind a short walk away. The exit was down a narrow spiral staircase, quite scary with a suitcase. My stay was ruined by the roadworks right outside the bedroom window, they stopped digging at 10pm! Unfortunate timing. Noisy traffic too.

Summary: We were only here 1 night for a party but the experience was a good one. Room was small but enough room to spend a night and was clean and comfortable. Loved the garden out the back and a good range of drinks were available. Cricklade is pretty and would definitely stay here again.

Summary: Lovely overnight stay at The Vale. The hand and body wash was very low in the bathroom but that was rectified very quickly. Room bright and spacious.

Summary: Really good value for money in a lovely town (village really).

Summary: Stylish room with wooden beams. Convenient for all amenities. However, there were a few issues, such as no door on the toilet and a lot of the lights weren’t working.
Gavin May 24, 2025 05:49:54 PM
Summary: The bathroom smelled, quite strongly of mold/mustiness.

Summary: Owner checked me in, really lovely guy. Very friendly and helpful. Room nice and comfy. Restaurant downstairs had a special on, so i had a sampling of the goat and the venison curry. Best I've ever had. Owner also pours a mean Guinness. I'll definitely be back!

Summary: Lovely welcome and great room- perfect for solo travellers at a reasonable price.

Summary: What a find! I booked at the very last minute - literally an hour or so before arrival - and feel I was very lucky to have chosen The Vale. The welcome was warm and friendly, the people are lovely, the room was a bijou but beautiful single (I was travelling as a lone lady with her dog) and spotlessly clean. The food is an interesting fusion of Indian and Kenyan (with standard fare on the menu too) and it was absolutely delicious. All cooked freshly from scratch on the premises. Cricklade is a lovely place - very friendly - and on the Thames Path. I walked downstream to Castle Eaton, had lunch in the pub there, and walked back - that's about 9 miles in total. There's another village upstream with a pub that's about the same distance, so two nice but not taxing day's walks are easy to do. The Vale is a real gem - a genuinely friendly, welcoming place where everyone talks to everyone else, and they love dogs too. I hope to be back.
