Summary: Staying here feels more like being in an Airbnb than a hotel. Staff is only around during limited hours and they give you a code to open a lockbox if you check-in after those times. The A/C in my room did not work at keeping the room cool at all, and I was only able to open one window in my room to let in fresh air. The TV didn't work at all. This is a beautiful building, I wish they could do more to restore it.

Summary: Big, bright and spacious room, looked lovely on the surface. Desk was badly water damaged on top, large swath of the carpet was wet from the (very loud) portable AC unit in the middle of the room. The Jacuzzi tub, which was the main reason I booked this place over another historic option, had clearly been painted over numerous times, layers that now chipped off, exposing cracks reaching from one jet to another. It did not even seem like the tub would hold water, even if I had tried. (Not to mention the fact that the hot water was warm, at best.) I did not mind the contact-less check-in; I received a text with which box my key would be in and the code worked fine. Would have been nice for the room to have a list of amenities in the lobby even if it is just water and coffee and ice has some other reviewers have mentioned. The art felt random, the bathroom mirror was hung crooked, the portable AC was pretty much all or nothing, the faucet on the sink was barely usable, the bathroom accessories completely out of place. It took me a couple of hours to finish what should have been about 15 minutes worth of work because the wifi was so wretchedly slow that I ended up having to hotspot from my phone in order to save files to the server. There's a big difference between historic and old and unfortunately, well this place May have been lovely and historic at some point, it now just feels old and unkept.

Summary: Despite being told we could check in early because we were part of a wedding party, when we arrived at 2:30pm we were told there was no body to clean the room. We had to leave the wedding after it had started to come upstairs to check in after 4pm. I got several flea bites in our room and was not comfortable taking a shower in the cracked jacuzzi tub. I'm so disappointed that I wasted my one key credits on this property.

Summary: The room was great. The overall stay was great. My family and I stayed here for two nights and attended a wedding reception downstairs which was very convenient. The only issue with this property is that there is no free parking. If you stay here, be ready to pay the meter daily or pay at the garage down the street. Otherwise, the property is fine.

Summary: Great location to the convention center. Was here for a conference and it was just a short walk. I liked being off the main conference street and able to get to coffee and food nearby. Safe hotel with friendly staff. It is older and it shows, but it is clean and a unique place with the architecture and Victorian vibe. Would definitely stay here again!

Summary: There was minimal staff help, we only got keys from the staff and then no one was there. no breakfast was offered, coffee and water were available. Sterling hotel was not easily found, you have to search the wedding place which was their main purpose. I won't stay there next time.

Summary: The day before check in I received a message that after 4pm check in would be Airbnb style (no person, virtual). I got nervous and texted the number provided but after some back and forth an incredibly sweet woman was there in person to check me in at 8pm when I arrived. She was super kind. Unfortunately the room was not very clean. There was hair all over the bathroom, and the room itself was just run down. The sheets seemed clean but the bed was sagging completely on one side. I kept my socks on while walking around the room and they got yellow on the soles. I had a very difficult time sleeping because a water heater or pipes were clanging very loudly all night long. I understand this is not a major chain hotel but a quiet and clean place to rest is not unreasonable especially at this price.

Summary: I come to Sacramento quite a bit for work and while there are plenty of hotels in the depths of downtown and along the Sacramento waterfront there are not a whole lot of options near the Capital and other state agency building. The Sterling is AWESOME for an affordable boutique stay in a very walkable and lovely part of town where accommodations are limited. I plan on making this my regular spot to stay when I'm in Sacramento.
