Positive: The location is excellent, just down the road from my daughter and family. The room I had was spacious. Nice big towels in the bathroom. There is a good carpark. Staff is the bar were friendly. There is a nice menu.
Negative: I have stayed here about four times over the last year or so. I always make the same comments on here, but nothing changes. I suggest that one of the staff stays in the room to experience my comments! Firstly, one of the windows does not shut properly, due to dampness and age, causing a draft - it was cold at night (February). The bathroom sink is chipped/cracked. The top of the taps on sink and in shower is missing. These minor faults are not a great inconvenience but do not give a good impression, especially as they have been the same for several years! The shower bracket is malfunctioning and does not always stay upright, meaning you have to shower with one hand holding it. There is an unsightly folding storage rack near the bathroom sink which is superfluous and unnecessary. It is difficult to reach the plug socket behind the dressing table for the hairdryer. The room would benefit from a full length mirror. The television/remote control needs an expert in audio-visual technology to make sense of the display. it would be helpful if the very similar two door keys were labelled instead of having to fumble around to use the right one. The wifi password could be displayed in the room. When I booked, it is confusing that some sites offer you free breakfast but others don't.
Summary: Reasonable value for money but a small amount of improvements would make it so much better!

Positive: Well situated for a lot of destinations, in a largely quiet, pretty surburban town with railway station 5 minutes away. Other pubs, convenience store, post office, and cafe, 2 minutes walk. Reasonable parking on site, good food and drink at standard pub prices for area. Early check in, which was a nice courtesy.
Negative: Bedroom was very hot, to the point of being a sauna. The radiator knob was broken and there was no option to turn it down. The window was wide open and we had to leave it open all night, but still made for an uncomfortable stay. Its hard to believe this wasnt checked before our stay. We would have asked to be moved, except we were in the area for an event, so we were only needing a bed overnight and were out until late. The room had the look of being recently refurbished, with low end Ikea products. No fan, no glass tumblers, no usb plug option, and, as standard, not much milk for more than two cups of tea. Iron headboard NOT attached to bed. No option for any further bedding, no lounge chair to sit, only a dressing table stool. Bathroom was large, but unfinished. Washbasin was chipped, vanity mirror light was not working. Loo seat not fixed well. Shower head extra wide and not a bad shower, only with its fixed position us far too low if youre any taller than 6ft. The water pressure is so fierce its very hard to wash as it removes any lotion the moment it hits your skin, and caused a mild panic attack to come on. Bathroom flooring had no vinyl or carpeting. Its a big oversight and Im frankly surprised they let out this room unfinished. Paint job is shabby chic style, but given the other issues, is this just another rush job to get the rooms ready quicker? Okay for one nights stay, but needs some attention. Hallways are dark and the stairs a problem if you have mobility issues. Back of property a bit untidy. ANPR wasnt in operation for car park at the time. Pub closes early so if youre out you need to let yourself in at the back entrance which might be a bit dark, so motion detector outside lights would be sensible.
Summary: Could have been great, but for more care and attention to detail.
