Positive: When you open the gate you are greeted by a beautiful path to the villa lined by plants and the big mango tree. The villa has everything you need, kitchen with a decent sized fridge, bathroom, couch and the bedroom has a/c! The hosts are incredibly generous and kind. They have made me tea and brought me multiple meals out of the kindness of their own hearts. They also have taken time out of their own lives to help me in multiple situations such as taking me to matara to catch a highway bus to colombo, to extend my visa. Then helping me through that process once i was there (which i will be forever grateful for). Sat with me for 4hrs as we worked through that process in colombo. Then took me to some of the local spots around the capital city that most tourists wouldnt get the chance to see. Took me out for lunch, then they made sure that i made it back to the villa safely after the day was done. They also took me around some of the local places here in marissa and matara for dinner and to sight see. It has been probably the best travel experience ive had staying here and making friends with the hosts and their family. The garden is very beautiful, one rainy day i sat on the porch and watched the birds and squirrels fly and run about the mango tree for a few hours. It is nice and quiet as its just far enough from the main road but not too far to walk(2-3min) to get a lift anywhere. The beach is a 5-7min walk to the sand. Its not a main beach but its more secluded which in peak season would be nice to get a small piece of beach to yourself. The locals around the area are really friendly too, and are always smiling and waving to say hi. It has been a wonderful stay and would highly recommend staying here if you want to have a fully private space and experience the true culture that sri lanka has to offer.

Positive: We stayed at the mango retreat for two weeks at the beginning of May 2024. We couldn’t have been more happy with our time here, the host couldn’t do enough for us and was so helpful. The location was walking distance from coconut tree hill and could also walk to the beach if you don’t mind a little walk which we did most days. It’s also near a big lake which is beautiful to walk around, just a really nice area. The actual villa was very well equipped, the kitchen had everything you would need and the garden was beautiful, and we got to eat lots of fresh mangos which were super tasty! We wanted to stay for longer and would have it they weren’t already booked up. Will definitely be back again when we return to Mirissa.

Positive: I couldn’t believe how amazing this place is. It’s a fully private house located on its own land separated from the owners, surrounded with a garden of mango trees and lots of flowers. The house seems to be freshly renovated, it’s very clean and has everything for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped, it has a stove, a kettle, a blender, a new clean fridge and lots of good quality dishes for cooking and eating. There are also such convenient details as sugar, salt, spices etc. A washing machine is located in a tiny laundry room with a separate door from the outside so you wouldn’t hear it at all. For a 10 days stay we got an additional set of bedding, about 7 towels of different sizes including large ones. Wifi worked great, with good speed. The location is very quiet but not “deadly quiet”. You’d meet tiny stores here, a few walking neighbours, lots of greenery and cozy looking houses. We walked to the beach every morning and evening. The closest ones are 10 minutes away by foot (with really lovely corners with sandy beach and calm water), you reach others within 15-20 min (the best beaches I’ve seen in Tangalle and Mirissa). A large Food City supermarket is 30 min away. Electricity is paid separately, however we asked the owners for a fixed price and they were very flexible about it. They also were always very responsive, helpful and easy going. I had only good and relaxing vibes from them. When we weren’t sure about our booking, they responded politely in contrast with other accommodations we chose between. So be sure they’ll reply all questions you have even before you make the booking. I think I might want to come back to Sri Lanka just to stay here for as long as a visa would allow :)
