Positive: King George Inn is perfectly situated in Cobourg, a block off the main street and a few minutes' walk to the harbour. The room was large and very well appointed with super comfy beds, lovely linens and several easy chairs. The room decoration was well thought out with some nice touches to make it feel more personal than a cookie-cutter design.

Negative: The entrance and stairwell up to room are in an older state and would benefit from sprucing up. The room comes with paper and plastic cups but the Inn's Manager happily lent us real drinking glasses.

Summary: King George is a great little inn. Comfortable and clean, in an excellent location.

Positive: Quirky style, comfortable bed.

Negative: It would be good if the coffee machine was replenished during the stay since there is no cafe/ restaurant attached to the hotel.

Summary: Nice welcome from staff and would definitely stay again due to great location within walking distance of beach and town.

Positive: Unique environment, clean and well maintained old building. Found the museum in the basement interesting. We did not have a prison cell room, but upstairs with a Victorian atmosphere and a castle as a mural at the head of the bed. Plenty of hot water, but had to waste a lot to get it to run hot.

Negative: Nice to have a lounge with microwave. Ideal for warming up restaurant leftovers. There were knives, but no forks. Bathroom sink had a stopper but no drain guard. Everything could drop down the drain, soap, lids, rings etc Bath was slippery. Had to use towel on it to take a safe shower. Would have been nice to have a grab bar. Old age and all that.

Summary: Unique environment; the place for people who want something different and not like a Holiday Inn.

Positive: Very comfortable, well-furnished room in a distinctive building (the old county jail), so a nice change from the standard chain hotels. Cobourg is a small friendly town with lots of independent businesses. Waterfront is lovely.

Negative: All was good - note that the hotel does not offer meal options, but there is are good bakeries nearby for breakfast options

Summary: Distinctive hotel in picturesque Cobourg

Positive: The property is unique and in a good location. The jail room was particularly unique, as it is made up of three actual 6ftx8ft jail cells, including one of the original bunk beds, but watch your head as the steel bed can be a real head banger. Definitely unique.

Negative: There is no front desk and no amenities of any kind, and even getting through the maze of halls and staircases is like trying to find your way around a carnival fun house. I get the feeling that the proprietors have little or no experience in actual hotel management. And don’t show up before 3:00, because the front door is literally locked, with no way to access anyone or anything. That said, it’s a unique experience that gives us something to talk about.

Summary: Nice location, clean unique room with absolutely no amenities.

Positive: We were in one of the jail rooms rather than being in the main part of the hotel. These rooms are converted jail cells so you are exchanging a bit of comfort for character. It was a nice change from the cookie cutter business hotels we have been staying in. It is also a short walk from the beach.

Negative: In this jail room the toilet and shower were basically in the room with a curtain surrounding them. The toilet was not even surrounded completely by the curtain.

Summary: A unique lodging experience
