Positive: 1. What is great It is a beautiful property in a lovely setting. Wonderfully maintained and laid out. Staff were fantastic and welcoming and extremely helpful. The winter programme had plenty of options and activities for all of us. Good The food was lovely but a bit overpriced for the offer. Glasshouse is a beautiful restaurant and most of the food was excellent. The Loinges are gorgeous but the food was a it hit and miss and some seemed a bit much (£19 for 3-4 pieces of crispy duck seems excessive).

Negative: Could improve - it was not obvious that all the kids activities would be removed and closed on 5 January. The soft play, playroom, games arcade were removed in the morning and we had nowhere to go with our son after breakfast in case we wanted some more time at the spa or a treatment. The kids pool also closed but we weren’t allowed to bring our son to the spa pool so we couldn’t really use it. The kids club is actually a day nursery - which is fine and great they have foster registration but this wasn’t evident when booking so our child expected a hotel/fun/holiday club and refused to stay in a day nursery. - the logistics of having to pre book everything in specific time slots, especially with small children, was a bit of a scheduling nightmare and made it all stressful and hard work. We couldn’t just walk in and out of activities because everything was 5-10 minute walk and required scheduling and booking. Setting the fire pit and marshmallows, kids activity club and family swim in the same 2 hour time slot was particularly unhelpful. The draw card was the combination of kids activities plus spa for adults plus family being able to swim together plus ease of beautiful grounds rooms and facilities. Making it a bit more seamless and easy to move around between things would lift the experience to be deserving of the high price. - finally, the first room we got was visibly dirty with layers of dust. Staff were quick to apologise and move us. However again on a 2 day trip that cost around £2k this added more mental load and waiting around. I spent a lot of time scheduling and rescheduling and managing which didn’t make it very relaxing and didn’t really manage to make use of the spa given overwhelmed with the scheduling. The room we got in the end was lovely.

Summary: Lovely hotel but could improve to merit the luxury price tag

Positive: Luxurious. Beautifully dressed for Christmas, and all the team are very welcoming, both in the hotel and The Glasshouse.

Negative: Sadly they don’t offer the wonderful ‘cherry on top’ deal anymore. It means we are unable to visit more often now. Such a shame.
