Positive: Location and staff were excellent, polite and very helpful. I wish all hotels were like yours.

Negative: Just one slight grumble. The nightlight in the room was too bright and seemed to be shining straight into me which affected my sleep. Was not till the morning when I realised how it could be switched off. Maybe a note could have been left how to switch it off or the nightlight could have been dimmed as it’s there for a purpose obviously. Besides that, I can’t take away from an enjoyable 2 days in York.

Summary: Will definitely come again.

Positive: The place really is grand. The staff at checkout were excellent. Room fantastic.

Negative: I got locked out of my room. There was a domestic manager with a radio nearby, and she asked her if she could let me in. She flat refused. Instead of radioing the reception to confirm my details, she refused. I get the need for security, but all the receptionist did was ask for the name on the booking; this could have been done over the radio.

Positive: Location is fabulous. Staff couldn’t do enough to help. Restaurant and bar both excellent - all food and drinks we had were fantastic.

Negative: Being picky, a pillow menu / choice would have even nice. When first checked in were given a ‘traditional room’ in the old part of the hotel which was rather tired and dated, but when asked, was moved to the ‘Roman House’ the more modern part of the hotel which was beautifully decorated and the room was very spacious, well laid out and very comfortable.

Summary: Absolutely superb place to stay for a weekend break in York.
