Positive: Hotel is very impressive, amazing in fact, both exterior and interior. Grounds also beautiful. The Stables building, however, where our room was, was not.

Negative: A Christmas party (late November) meant the restaurant was shut and the bar full of drunk revellers. So no pleasant evening in the lovely hotel possible. Our room in the Stables was dull, devoid of atmosphere, and hopelessly draughty as none of the windows (single glazed metal framed and warped) would shut. Loud rumbling noise all night kept us awake (turns out we were above a generator). No TV remote in the room and it took 3 phone calls and half an hour for one to be brought.

Positive: Every member of staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. The hotel has a very much community feel about it, with lots of seating around and the food/service was great for dinner in the restaurant. The grounds are beautiful and definitely worth a walk around if possible!

Positive: The hotel building and grounds are amazing, you can sense the history in the building. The Christmas decorations and trees in the hallways were beautiful. The open fire blazing in the bar was a perfect backdrop for our night cap.

Negative: The breakfast experience was disappointing. The setting for breakfast is beautiful but it was very chaotic with nobody seemingly in control. When we went for our cooked buffet there were no plates, no sausages, bacon or black pudding. All except the black pudding eventually arrived, however when we returned to our table a waitress had cleared our table taking our fruit and toast!

Summary: Beautiful setting, good value for money but the breakfast experience left it down

Positive: We stayed for a wedding. Beautiful hotel and grounds. Especially with all the Christmas decorations. Room was large and spacious, with good tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge which was a bonus.

Negative: Our room was in the stables and was extremely cold. The only heating was 2 portable electric radiators that couldn't be left on to warm up the room as the key card is required in the room to keep the electricity on. Nice room, but needs proper heating.
