Collevecchiois considered to be the prettiest and the most authentic town of the Sabinaarea. Centuries ago it was the ‘capital’ of Sabina with a Court and a summerpalace for the pope. It even had through the Orsini family connections with theMedici in Florence. For this reason you will find many palazzi, however withoutthe glamour of the past.Casa Sottole Mura, situated next tothe recently renovated church named Chiesa dellaMadonna del Rifugio with a parking place next to it. The house is a former farmwith cows where now you will find the main room. When you go outside via thefront door you are in the town, whilst the backdoor leads you to a large terracein the ‘campagna’, covered by the shade of a bamboo pergola. It is situated at the top of a hill with olive trees. The viewis quite spectacular, as you see below in the valley a large part of WestSabina with the pre Apennines at the end.Amidst ofthe olive trees you will find a fine swimming pool (10 x 4 x 1.60) surroundedby cypresses and olive trees. The view here is as spectacular as from the mainterrace. The pool is surrounded by a fine terrace, partly in wood.The largeterrace in front of the house is connected with a long terrace with grapes (asof July they are edible). Below this terrace there is a small ‘orto’ withtomatoes. In the garden on the slope of the hill are several fruit trees.The palazzowith the bar is the centre of the town. Here you can have outside or inside a cafeor cappuccino with a cornetto as breakfast in the morning. In the evening youcan order an aperitivo. The supermarket is only a 5 minutes’ walk from thepalazzo. With a 15 to 20 minutes’ drive you will find a number of good restaurants. At the station of Collevecchio (with a parking place) , being only a 10 minutes’ drive, thetrain will take you almost every hour within only an hour to Rome and to the airport of Fiumicino. A rental car is recommended.Finally thehouse has a living and dining room adjacent to it a brand new kitchen witheverything you need. There is one large bedroom and two small bedrooms with each2 beds and 2 bathrooms, an extra toilet, etc. and air conditioning in eachbedroom. There is a separate studio opposite the house, with 2 beds, a small bathroom and a small kitchen, which can be rented for 200 euro a week extra. Ideal, if you wish to have some extra privacy.
So an ideal place to be away from everything and with Rome nearby!

Summary: John is a very responsive and helpful host responding quickly eg when we had some storm damage. The kitchen is very well equipped and the welcome pack was a nice touch. Swimming pool was great and the site is well maintained. It would have been helpful to have photographs of the bedrooms on the website. Collevecchio is a lovely friendly hilltop village with great access to Rome. Good local amenities like the lively cafe and supermarket

Summary: Fabulous villa in a great location. The setting on the edge of the old town is fantastic, with a shop walking distance away, and the train station only a few minutes by car which we used to go to Rome on two days. We loved the views from the property out over the valley and the hills. Lovely secluded pool, again with great views. The villa was very comfortable, especially with the air con in the bedrooms. Really good communication from the host. Would definitely go again!

Summary: We had 2 wonderful weeks in John's house in Collevecchio. The house was very clean and fully equipped. Nothing was missing. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning in the bedrooms ensured a good sleep. The large terrace with the incredible view and the pool made the stay extra special. Collevecchio is a pretty village with a supermarket within walking distance and a nice cafe on the piazza. Drinks and snacks are cheap and good. The people are all very friendly and helpful. The village has been spared from major tourism and is therefore tranquil. A car is recommended. John is very helpful and hospitable. A very pleasant contact. It's pitty that the time passed so quickly. We would love to come back and can recommend the house without restrictions! Many thanks John and kind regards from Germany, Olaf

Summary: This beautiful house in Collevecchio was perfect for our family of 4. A terrace with views and small fruit garden, a big pool, a well appointed kitchen, a/c in the three nice bedrooms, and not least sturdy wifi. The village is small and picturesque, everyone is really friendly. We visited the cafee in the square at least once a day. John is an attentive host it is clear he has had guests here before. We had very clear and helpful instructions and tips, and we could reach out to him whenever we had questions. Highly recommended!
