Juneau House | “The Cove” A Quiet Retreat Between Alaskas Ocean and Forest

2 Bedroom House in Juneau

Let “The Cove” serve as your base and retreat as you explore this spectacular corner of Alaska. The Cove is nestled close to the shores of Smugglers Cove in the arms of the temperate rain forest of Southeast Alaska. Our location provides a unique blend of the feeling of remote living, but with the convenience of being close (8 miles) to the town center of Juneau. Come join us in your private home as you let your surroundings smuggle away your cares and reset your soul.
Take some time to wander out our backdoor into the magic of the Rain forest, where salmon berries and blueberries flourish. Or maybe a beach walk along the shores of Smugglers Cove is more to your linking where resident eagles keep watch. Whatever you decide, the best part is knowing “The Cove” is waiting to embrace you when you return. As your base camp, your private cottage serves to help you recuperate from your adventures, it provides you a relaxing setting to give your legs and feet a rest, comforting beds to carry you to sleep and a full kitchen and barbecue should you decide to practice your culinary skills.
So make us a part of your next visit, enjoy our views and relax in the comfort of the cove. There is much to do and see around Juneau from kayaking to hiking. So if you need help with arrangements let us know we love Alaska and love to share it with others. If you're here to work or vacation, consider "The Cove" for your home away from home.
My husband built this original home 20 years ago. Here we raised our three children before “living small” was popular. Over the past four years we added a detached home next to it where we now reside. We reserve “The Cove” for children to come back to and for YOU to come visit for a wonderful Alaska stay.
Your (900 sq ft) private space includes the main entrance and bedroom with full size murphy bed, on lower level with rear exit leading to back yard and fire pit. Upper level includes kitchen, dining and seating area with spacious deck and barbecue, as well as, bedroom with queen bed, laundry, and shower only bathroom.
The location is 10 min from the airport. Situated in popular Auke Bay with a new Brewery, dining options, and whale watching boats, fishing and kayaking available. “Out the road” find more beaches and tourist attractions including one of my favorites, The Shrine of St. Therese. The Mendenhall Glacier is also in close proximity which is a must see. I especially like the walk to Nugget Falls water fall.

Summary: This was a perfect home away from home. Our family of 4, with 2 teenagers, loved staying here. With Fritz cove just steps away, my husband and son spent many hours fishing, and watching the bald eagles. This was a perfect location, away from all the cruise ships in Juneau, but not far from anything. The house has plenty of space, with some lovely touches provided by the owner… chocolates, nuts, spices and cooking basics… we did not need anything. We really enjoyed using the hot tub, with lovely views of the trees. I would absolutely stay here again, it’s a gem, and communication with the owner was spot on. She checked in with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed, and was very responsive. It was just a perfect stay.

Summary: I don't think words can properly sum up how amazing "The Cove" is. Tastefully decorated and situated far enough from down but also close enough for a short drive to everything you need. Breath taking views and plenty of trails close to explore the beauty of Alaska. Our host Bernie has some essentials stocked for use and she had everything needed to prepare your own meals. The grill was easily accessible from the kitchen area and the hot tub came in handy after some hiking. There is even a hot outdoor shower. If I ever venture back to Juneau I will check the availability of The Cove before making any plans. It is a must stay when in Juneau

Summary: The cove is hands down the best place to stay in Juneau. Bernie has really thought of everything to make your stay absolutely perfect and it has everything you could ever think of needing to make your stay wonderful. You are surrounded by spectacular views and the area is peaceful and quiet. It was so nice to come back after a day of hiking and relax in the hot tub and then rinse down in the outdoor while surrounded by the rainforest. We hope to be back someday. Thank you Bernie for your impeccable hospitality. You are a wonderful host and it was a pleasure meeting you. We fell in love with your home.place

Summary: The host and owner treated us so well during our visit. She even helped us out when we arrived too late to pick up our rental car. This place is fantastic and extremely clean. We had everything we needed and the kitchen was well stocked. Even had spices for cooking. The view over the cove was spectacular. I would highly recommend this cottage. ov cove

Summary: My husband, son and I planned a trip to Juneau for mid-August to visit our other son who was working as a pilot for Alaska Seaplanes this summer. We are from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and were hoping to find a place to stay that allowed us to see and do as much as possible in a short stay in Juneau and to allow us space to relax and catch up as a family. The Cove was perfect! From the beginning of the booking, and during our stay, our communications with Bernadine were prompt and friendly. We were fortunate to meet her and her husband and enjoyed hearing their tales of how they developed this property. The home was lovely, beautifully designed and decorated and comfortable. The kitchen was the best stocked I have ever seen in a VRBO property. We were within walking distance to the small cove nearby and the views from the deck were stunning. We enjoyed the hot tub very much with an outdoor shower! We were extremely lucky with sunshine for 5 days in a row, not common. But on the last day, even with misting, our time was well spent and comfortable. The distance to town, groceries and the airport was very close with our rental car. We did many tours and hikes with tour companies and on our own. Being from the UP, we love lush foliage, trees and cooler temps and lots of water. We felt right at home with Juneau and the glaciers and mountains made this trip even more special. We highly recommend the Cove and will plan on returning in the future.
