Positive: A peaceful retreat that touched my heart. Staying at THE HOUSE KIROKU (Kura 02) was one of the most unique and relaxing experiences I’ve had in Japan. Nestled in a quiet village with lush greenery, it felt like a perfect balance between nature and privacy. The room was full of charm — a beautiful blend of traditional design and modern comfort. I felt completely at ease from the moment I stepped in. One special highlight was the selection of local sake, all complimentary and even available to take home. Such a lovely and unexpected souvenir to bring back! Dinner and breakfast were both carefully crafted. The flavors were delicate and felt very natural — I personally loved it, though I can imagine the taste might be different from what some international guests are used to. The whole stay was contactless, with remote check-in and meals delivered directly to the room. I appreciated the calm and the space to just breathe. If you’re looking for a quiet escape with a touch of Japanese countryside charm, this is the place. I would love to return again in another season.

Negative: The nearest station is a bit far from the property, but that distance allows for a peaceful stay, away from the noise and surrounded by nature. There is no shuttle service, so I would recommend renting a car or traveling by car. It also makes it easier to explore the beautiful surrounding area.

Positive: Very clean. Though the indoor slippers aren’t provided, you wouldn’t even think about asking.

Negative: The dishes can mix more meat. We feel the veggie are too overwhelming, although they are delicious.

Positive: The main feature of this stay for me was the hot springs. Being able to sit in the onsen with a view of the mountains was truly unique. The private sauna was also very nice. This ryokan is a fantastic place to get away from modern life for a few days and relax. The food is also very high quality, although the nature of some of the more traditional dishes takes some adjusting of the palette.

Negative: The location is somewhat remote, so I would recommend hiring a car if you want to explore the surrounding area. There is a pickup service from the train station, but that is only available at specific times.

Summary: Relax and soak in the amazing hot springs at this luxurious ryokan.
