Positive: There were some toys available for our children to play with. The beds were very comfortable. When there was an issue with the karaoke the owner dealt with it quickly after a message in the booking app.

Negative: The kitchen setup is good but a set of measuring cups and spoons would be an easy cheap improvement.

Summary: Confirmable child friendly apartment.

Positive: Spacious apartment that is actually someone’s home, and is on AirBnB as well. The location is fine, near Hiroshima station.

Negative: Shortly before arrival we were forged to upload picture of our passports otherwise we would not get the entrance code. We did not like that, nor the threatening language. Landlord did not respond quickly to questions, some questions remained unanswered. There is no coffee or tea, nor were there any kitchen towels. The house has got remote switches on everything. Some of the beds are really poor quality and hard as stone. The remote for the AC in the living room, is mounted on a doorpost outside the living room…we searched a long time for it on arrival. The house is full with all kinds of stuff. English translations for some things are missing. We did not meet the landlord nor does he introduce himself.

Summary: Not our kind of appartment

Positive: The location is great. Hiroshima station and a large supermarket are within a short walk. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen had plenty of utensils and a nice selection of pans and appliances. Very clean and nice decor. Plenty of space for a large group.

Negative: The hot water in the shower took a very long time to heat up. Some of the decorations were excessive. There is no space to set things on many of the counters and they are covered in decorations.

Summary: A comfortable apartment in a great location.

Positive: The gentleman hosting has spent a lot of time and effort converting his 3 storey home into a host house.

Negative: We paid the gentleman directly, online. The process was very difficult, and we had to check with booking.com it wasn’t a scam (it wasn’t). After many days of back and forth, we managed to pay (took about a week). Then we had to provide our personal details (passport numbers, address, phone numbers, date of birth etc). We did this, via 3 different platforms, on three separate occasions sat the gentleman’s repeated requests. When we arrived, the gentleman asked again for our personal information via a fourth platform and advised if we did not provide it he would not host us for the night (we had nowhere else to stay, so would have turned a family of 5 away in a foreign city). Had lots of electronic gadgets carefully placed and we were too nervous to use any of them lest we put anything out of place. We spent longer trying to arrange the details of the stay than the hours we stayed there. Thankfully, only booked 1 night.

Summary: The place was fine, but the process required to book was very inconvenient and challenging.
