Imagine arriving at a place so breathtaking that your eyes can't help but linger, absorbing its natural magnificence. A place immersed in the heart of one of the largest bird reserves, where flocks of birds gather gracefully by the water's edge. As you drive up to this charming cottage, you immediately recognize its uniqueness—it stands in a class of its own.
Welcome to Sunrise by the Sea. Sunrise is rustic 1900 ocean front cottage that has been recently renovated down to the studs, while keeping it's original charm. You will find spectacular views of the Bay of Fundy, Campobello Island & Quoddy Head State Park. Sunrise is immersed in the South Lubec Sand Flats. This saltwater marsh is on the top 10 birding spots in Maine. High tide you may see flocks flying overhead to nest nearby, while low tide you may see them return to the shoreline. Sunrise is a small space, but can comfortably fit up to 5 + guests. Two bedrooms are shared on upper level of the cottage. The bedrooms overlook the bay and ever changing tides through saltwater marsh. The king bedroom has their own personal upper level deck to enjoy that breath taking view that words or photos can not convey. On a clear sunny day you can see Grand Manon Island 8 nautical miles away as well as spectacular views of the Bay of Fundy, Campobello Island & Quoddy Head State Park.
The other bedroom has 2 full beds with it's own privacy door. The king bedroom does not have a privacy door due to the age of the cottage. The lower level has the bathroom, kitchen and dining/living room. It also includes a spacious lower level deck where meals can be enjoyed while taking in the view. The cottage is equipped with 300 speed internet for video conferencing. Please note: There is no smoking of any kind in the cottage. Thank you.
Guests will have full access to the whole fully appointed cottage, as well as the back yard. Sunrise cottage path is the right of way down to the water. Once down to the water, you will have full access to walk up and down the shore line. If you walk across the sand bar at low tide, take a left, .3 miles you will be able to access a long pebble beach. At high tide, you may have to walk on the road back to your cottage.
There is another right of way path next to Sunrise cottage, please do not use the longer path, that is not on the property. Sunrise cottage path is marked for your convenience.
If you are bring your pet, there are dog bowls and waist bags provided in entry way. Pets are not advised to go to upper level due to the stairwell. Please leash your pet while outside due to eagles and predators. Please use the back lawn and towards the water or meadow path to walk your pet. This beautiful area is shared with neighbors, best keep your pet with you.
The pet fee for a 3 day stay is $130.00 up to 2 dogs under 50 lbs. Beyond 3 days, a charge $10.00 per day per dog may be adjusted in the resolution center due to extra cleaning cost. Pets are not allowed on the beds.
We do ask if you book a pet, please use flea and tick treatment prior to arrival. Maine is known for high Lyme deer ticks disease, best keep your pet protected.
Please give your pet toenails a trim before your visit, it will help protect the pine flooring. Thank you for your understanding!
Please note that the driveway is a right of way path that is shared with the neighbors.
Please do not use the front yard for pet exercise as it crosses into private property boundaries. You may use the back lawn and meadow path. Thank you for your understanding.

Summary: Sunrise Cottage was all we wanted it to be. We had wonderful views of the birds (gulls, crows, cranes/herons and even eagles) who were so relaxing to watch as the tides came in and out. The beach was nearby and we visited daily to search for fun rocks, shells and sea glass. The amenities were very comfortable and quite honestly we felt like we were at home. Even our little dog felt at home almost immediately and was reluctant to leave when our time was up. Debra was extremely easy to communicate with when any questions came up which were few as we had everything we needed. We absolutely would recommend this VRBO to anyone coming to the Lubec area and will hopefully come to stay again very soon!

Summary: This is a great home if you are looking for a quiet location to enjoy beautiful sunrises, a spectacular view from the Narrows to Liberty Point to Grand Manan, and starry skies at night. There is great outdoor space including a covered deck off the second floor so that you can enjoy the views, ducks, eagles, and other wildlife even on days that are less than ideal.The house was very clean. The rooms were all a nice size. The kitchen was well appointed and we had everything we needed to cook.Parking is spacious and easy to get in-and-out of so that you can get to the center of town or the lighthouse in a matter of a few minutes.

Summary: My boyfriend and I spent two nights here at the end of October 2024. We chose it for its proximity to the West Quoddy Head lighthouse. This was an amazing stay - the property was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. There was even a thoughtful basket with several snacks and coffee packets. The host, Debra, was incredibly kind and welcoming. She provided restaurant recommendations for places that we would not have been able to find ourselves online (several restaurants in the area had already closed for the season). There was also a thoughtful binder in the living room that included a ton of information about the area, including restaurants and tourist attractions. There were several attractions/tours that had already closed for the season, but learning about them made me want to come back to see them. I used the information from the binder to help me plan which hikes I wanted to do around the Quoddy Head lighthouse. I really enjoyed making coffee from the packets that were included in the welcome basket and spending my mornings in the kitchenette window looking out at the ocean and drinking coffee. Luckily we had a day of great weather and I spent pretty much the entire day hiking around Quoddy Head. And we were also lucky because we had some clear skies at night, which allowed us to see a ton of stars (we live in a suburb of a large city so we never get the chance to see so many stars). I highly recommend this property.

Summary: This was the trip our family needed. The Sunrise cottage was perfect for us. Off the main road, very few neighbors, a lovely view and very close to many adventures. The cottage was very clean, had everything we needed and was so comfortable. We so enjoyed opening the windows and feeling the cool night air come off the water. Thank you for inviting dogs.
