Positive: The location is the best we have had yet in Scotland. The river in the back was beautiful and felt very peaceful surround by the trees.
Negative: Nothing that was a fault of the owners. No one can help that it’s midge season. We were very comfortable and measures were taken to keep the midges outside.

Positive: If you're looking for somewhere to stay on the way through Scotland, this is an ideal stopping point, right on the main road but it feels secluded and tranquil, with the river running at the bottom of the garden. Our hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome, the food was delicious and our room was really comfortable.

Positive: Tony and Mandy seem like decent hardworking people. The project is new and we could see that there is so much they would like to do to put their own 'stamp' on the business. We wish them well in their venture and hope that they receive the support of the public. A fabulous location. The building is old and lends itself wonderfully to the location.
Negative: Shower door does not close easily and can allow water to run out onto floor. Would recommend fly nets for windows in bedrooms and the conservatory to keep midges out. Paint window frames and downpipes outside?

Positive: Small facility with a pub and only few rooms. Friendly and helping staff. Clean room, well equipped bathroom. Parking in the front - enough spaces. Full english breakfast was included (even with haggis).
Negative: Higher price - would expect more value for the money. Food was on average level. Room couldnt be locked, but we didnt need that, so no issue, just to be aware. Uncomfortable sofa bed, this should be improved.

Positive: Lovely location by the River Black Water. Very convenient for exploring Ullapool and the Ross hinterland and coast. Hosts were very warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Cafe caters very flexibly from snacks to evening meals. Very dog friendly. Lots of local scenic attractions.
Negative: A TV in the room for a bit of downtime would be nice but the digital detox did us good. Plumbing was a bit temperamental but Mandy and Tony were very responsive to a minor issue and are working hard on renovations in their first year as owners.

Positive: River Black is laid back and quiet, with very comfy beds in a unique , old tavern/inn. The food is great, and the staff treats you like family. We'll be back to River Black.
