From the very first moment, Carol, Solly, and Zolly welcomed us with such warmth and genuine kindness that we felt truly special. Carol even surprised us with a beautiful gift — a gesture that touched our hearts deeply. The attention and care from the entire team is something we have never experienced quite like this anywhere else in the world. We are already certain: if you are looking for a place that goes far beyond accommodation and delivers a truly meaningful experience, this is it. We will carry this memory with us forever.

Positive: Solly the tour guide and the entire staff were really amazing. Solly was very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions we had. The rest of the staff were also very friendly and accommodating. Constantly checking if we have everything we need. Seeing the animals in the wild was also quite the experience and I’d recommend doing it at least once.
Negative: Carol the owner is extremely rude. She was rude over text and then wasn’t very accommodating once we got there. Our driver also said he had a terrible experience with her where she was rude to him in the past as well. Because of her lack of professionalism and accommodations I would not recommended this place. You also have to drive 10 miles down this very bumpy and dangerous road to actually get to the west gate to get to the reserve, which was scary and just not worth it. Find another reserve with a better owner and an entrance at the main gate. The shower also didn’t drain well so when you shower you have to water up to your ankles. Our lock to our cabin was also broken, and even though we were the only guests that day somehow we still got that cabin.
Summary: I wouldn’t stay here again.

Positive: I wanted to share my full experience with Rhino Plains as I feel it is by far the best lodge I have ever stayed at. Carol runs a beautiful place with the help of Nisa, who is always there asking how she can make your stay better, and Solly, who is an incredibly knowledgeable tracker and fun driver/guide. His knowledge of wildlife behavior is out of this world; he can track animals from miles away while making your journey to find them an exciting one. To him, it is all a game of chase, and he will make sure to keep you entertained. The lodge also suggested Dean to me as a driver from Johannesburg to the reserve's West Gate. Dean was fun, and he has the best playlist ever to sing along to on your over 3-hour drive. I was lucky to see Rhinos, Zebras, Buffaloes, Hippos, a Lion (twice), Giraffes, Elephants, Warthogs, Antelopes, and more. The lodge has its own waterhole that is constantly visited by animals big and small. During my last dinner, I enjoyed a group of 10 elephants eating and playing by the waterhole while I ate my dinner. I can't think of a better dinner view. We had a beautiful tea time in the reserve surrounded by zebras, and every time I woke up from my nap in my beautifully decorated room, I could see a ton of monkeys staring at me. I found this place by asking ChatGPT to list the best 5 safari lodges in South Africa, and I can tell you, it was not wrong. The food is delicious, made to your preference, and if weather allows, there is a common pool in front of the waterhole and a small one by each room. Every single detail is exquisite, designed for your comfort, with good taste and in perfect harmony with the natural environment. This is a bucket list wish fulfilled and I certainly hope to go back.
Negative: There is not one thing that I did not like here, honestly, it was perfect. I felt like a celebrity having an adventure at a price I could actually afford.

Positive: I visited Rhino plains with my partner in December. Even though there were very heavy rains, we still had the most fantastic time! The staff are incredible and the venue is wonderful. We were greeted by a beautiful rhino at the watering hole when we arrived - Rhino Plains, a very fitting name! Our game ranger, Solly, was fabulous!
Negative: There was nothing that Rhino Plains could have done to change the weather, that was the only thing that wasn't perfect.
Summary: Most wonderful time!
