5 Bedroom Place in Sauvelade

The house is a 18th Century Bearnaise farm known as a 'cluster' a house with barns attached situated at the edge of the small hamlet Sauvelade on the main Pilgrim way to Comino De Santiago in Spain. Sauvelade has a famous Abbey and 2 small bar restaurants all within 10min walking distance, but then surrounded by beautiful Gascony countryside, Spa towns and villages.
The house has 5 bedrooms, 3 Kings, 2 twins plus options of additional pull out beds, 3 bathrooms,2 shower, 1 bath and additional downstairs toilet. The living areas are open plan with children's play area with lego, Brico, books, Smart TV, DVDs and boxes of toys and games and sitting area in front of the Log burner for relaxing.The German Kitchen is new and has double oven range cooker, large American fridge, microwave, dishwasher and centred on a big round table. For those that need to be connected the house has a phone with 20MB broadband.
The house also has a large 40m2 roof terrace with views over the valley and the pyrenees perfect for a morning coffee or early evening drink. There is a new(2016) 5x12m heated pool with electronic safety cover, with patio and a large lawned garden all secured by safety fence and child lock gate. The pool is set at 28c but can be adjusted either up or down to your personal taste. The garden is grassed and has ball games, trucks, trampolines and slides whilst the open barn has table tennis, darts and other games to entertain when wet or just keen to stay out of the sun. The courtyards are gravelled with sitting area and sun covers for alfresco dining and a gas BBQ for cooking. There is an outside utility room with washing machine and dryer.
Morning bread can be bought at the Abbey or at the boulengerie in Orthez 10 mins away which has all the convenience of a modern town, supermarkets, shops,doctors, vets etc.

Summary: This property has it all if you're travelling with children. Our group were 6 adults and 5 children and the house felt more than big enough. It is probably the best holiday house we've stayed at in terms of how it is provisioned, with everything you'd need in the kitchen, to copious amounts of pool towels, floats, toys and inflatables! Inside as well there was so much to keep the children entertained. The surrounding area is very peaceful, seen perfectly from the small roof terrace, which looks out on the Pyrenees on one side and the setting sun on the other. The house and surrounding area met our needs perfectly and we'd definitely return.

Summary: An absolutely fantastic holiday, we had a party of ages 6 - 67 across 3 generations and everything you can think of is catered for. Rooms, pool, living space and scenery is Beautiful, a choice of gas or charcoal bbqs- we used both. I have travelled a fair bit and can honestly say I feel this is the best and most accomodating place I have stayed, I struggle to find anything that would have made our visit any better. The children didn't even squabble. Absolutely wonderful.

Summary: Our extended family of six adults and 4 children spent a week here in late July. Approaching the property from the road, the children were appalled at the site of what looked like a dilapidated home, but as we turned into the driveway, everything changed and we found a wonderfully renovated and appointed residence. Everything was as good as or better than we had hoped. Very modern and well equipped kitchen, excellent bathrooms, comfortable rooms... The children loved the pool and all the inflatable accessories, whether is was after a long day of touring, or on lazy relaxation days. The trampoline and ping pong table were also a hit. The location was excellent, as there are many interesting places to visit within a reasonable driving distance: castles, abbayes, beaches... We had coordinated our stay to be there when the Tour de France was passing through the Pyrenees, and we were not disappointed as we were able to easily access two of the stages. It was also nice to be in the quiet countryside after spending 3 days in Paris. Lovely scenery, sunflower fields... The roof terrace was nice, but unfortunately the Pyrenees were often hidden in fog, and the night the kids wanted to eat up there, they were driven back downstairs by bees. Flying insects were also a bit of a problem in the house as the windows do not have screens. We did enjoy eating out on the patio. All in all, we were very happy with our stay in Sauvelade.

Summary: This is a superb property in a great location, and ideally suited to a large party with a variety of areas to suit all tastes - from a quiet afternoon enjoying the views to activity in the pool or the gardens alongside. A great deal of thought has obviously gone into the design, with helpful additions such as a trampoline and a terrific pool - unlike some houses you can actually swim in this one! The owners could not do enough to make us feel welcome, and the attention to detail in the property means that all your needs are likely to be accommodated.

Summary: Its a really well thought through renovation, maximising the original charm of the farmhouse, but making it a warm and welcoming place to stay. It has loads of space, both in and out, so perfect for large groups and families. Accommodation is thoughtfully furnished and bedding very comfortable. the kitchen is a great space for entertaining and roof top terrace a real treat for watching the sunset. The pool, trampoline, table tennis and dart board were in constant use, and loads of garden to play in, and very private. The pool particularly is suitable for both kids to play and adults to swim. The owners were great to deal with and we hope to go back this summer.

Summary: This beautiful Bearnaise house has been carefully restored, but inside it has every modern convenience, great bathrooms, a huge kitchen and a wood burning stove in the living room. The pool is fantastic and gating and an electric cover make it safe for young children. Set in rolling countryside with spectacular views of the pyrennese, the house is close to lots of beautiful villages and just 1.5 hours drive from Bayonne and San Sebastian. We had a fantastic holiday.
