Positive: This is a fantastic hotel set in beautiful grounds bags of character and a pleasure to stay at from an aesthetic point of view so no issues, the room was a good size and the staff friendly. Extensive grounds and a semi rural setting. The food in the evening was lovely.
Negative: There are three main areas that took the edge of what would have been a fantastic stay , so starting with the least important , was the amount of cutlery on the tables especially forks and other clutter leaving barely enough room on the table for food , although this was exceptional I did wait for quite a length of time on the first night for a quiche with Salad and new potatoes, the second day the more complex meal was done much quicker and it wasn't busy ., but the food was worth the wait. I was given the wrong key to get in , it didn't fit the lock , so when I returned a 10.15PM I couldn't get in and the place was locked up and dark like a ship, I rang about six times until me phone ran out and they hung up on me every time . After an hour and a half I was resign to the fact that I would have to sleep in the car. I did one more tour with a metal ruler from car and found a window I could open into the kitchen, straight in and off to bed after a cup of tea, they renewed the biscuits but not the tea , I travel with additional tea, I'm from Yorkshire. They apologised and issued a new key as I was leaving for the day. I did have a chuckle about this but in retrospect if it had been an elderly person they'd be dead in the grounds. Finally the defining and most disruptive part about the stay apart form the road noise was the lighting on the front of the building and the lights highlighting the trees, I know because I live in the middle of North Wales I like it dark, but the row of ultra bright lamps facing directly into the building meant despite the curtains the room was constantly light, absolutely over the top and rightly so for this magnificent building with its historical exterior. Not after closing the light pollution was extreme, I suppose the only good use the lighting was that it did highlight the open window into the kitchen.
Summary: Great Hotel - With a few issues
