Positive: Rangiroa Cottage is a cute and well equipped place to stay on Rangiroa. Our cottage was very comfortable, especially the bed. There is a nice view of the ocean from the patio as well. The cottage is on the ocean side vs lagoon which means less mosquitoes due to the breeze and also means no safe swimming. The beach is great for looking at tide pools and enjoying a night time walk to see the most amazing display of stars. Tau was a fabulous host. Very friendly and helpful. She helped book our blue lagoon tour and rental bikes. Accommodations do not include bikes which you will definitely want on Rangiroa. The bike rental place is a five minute walk away. Tau provided drinking water which made it easier transporting necessary groceries from the market. There are no breakfast restaurants so plan to make a trip to the market upon arrival. The kitchen is well equipped. Logistics wise, communication before arrival was delayed by a day or two due to time zones. Tau’s daughter, Tana, helps with communication and she is in EU time zones. Also, you will need to pay via wire transfer in advance. For Americans, this may seem very strange, but it was fine and worked out well. There are very friendly cats and a dog on property which I really enjoyed. We were very happy with our stay at Rangiroa Cottage.

Negative: Communications before we arrived were delayed by a day or two. Especially before I started using WhatsApp. Booking a trip to French Polynesia is especially challenging and quick communication can mean the difference between getting an inter island flight or not. It’s a balancing act between various bookings and quick decisions need to be made. It was okay after I started to use WhatsApp with Tana, but would have appreciated quicker responses.

Positive: Its a very clean studio, with a well equipped kitchen. The host is super inviting and friendly, it felt as if we were visiting a family member who made us feel at home!

Positive: Beautiful, quiet spot not far from Avatoru village. Easy bike ride (provided by host) to good restaurants - Chez Rua, Antoinette and a pizza wagon. Super lovable dog and cat, Kahlua and Meme (see pics) on property. Tauhere has done an amazing job on the space and the grounds.
