Positive: Really enjoyed my time here, the host has built a brilliant out building which you have to yourself and is very comfortable. You feel somewhat like you are in the wild, with the noises of the jungle at nighttime. The host is really helpful and the breakfast he cooked in the morning was still my favourite in my time in Sri Lanka. 10/10 stay and have recommended it to friends visiting. I travelled by motorbike, it's a bit out of town which suited me but you will need to get transport there. The host may be able to arrange, he was very helpful.

Negative: Liked everything. If I had to recommend a single improvement it would be hot water for the shower but this is very minor.

Positive: Stayed 3 nights in January 2025 as two backpackers, looking for a more authentic, non-hotel experience near Sigiriya. To start with the positives, the treehouse itself is genuinely impressive. Rana spent over a year building it by hand, and the amount of work, effort, and craftsmanship really shows. Staying here is a very cool and unique experience and feels much more special than a standard guesthouse. Breakfast was included and decent for the price. Bugs in the room are expected in a jungle setting, and this is not a luxury stay, which is fine and understood.

Negative: Unfortunately, the main issue was the host experience, which took away from what could have been a great stay. Wi-Fi technically exists but is painfully slow and unreliable. Combined with the fact that walking at night is genuinely unsafe due to wild elephants in the area, guests become very dependent on Rana for transport and logistics. Rana frequently offers to drive you places and help out, but these services are not clearly communicated as paid extras with defined costs. We would have appreciated this being clearly stated upfront, as the services themselves can be useful when priced transparently. Rana is also knowledgeable about the area and does give helpful advice on where to go and what to check out around Sigiriya, which we appreciated. One morning we agreed on a pickup time to go to Sigiriya Rock. Rana arrived over an hour late with no clear explanation. After Lion Rock, instead of taking us back, we were brought to a well-known tourist trap spice garden. It became obvious this was a commission stop, which was disappointing because it was presented as help from good faith rather than a transparent business arrangement. After this, our trust dropped and we rented our own motorbike to avoid relying on him further. The final straw came at the end of our stay. With the Wi-Fi barely usable and no reliable service, we had no realistic alternative to reach the bus stop. In that situation, Rana charged us an extra 7,500 LKR for transportation that had previously been framed as free. The interaction felt high-pressure and avoidable with better communication.

Summary: The treehouse itself is a one-of-a-kind stay, and a lot of hard work has clearly gone into building it. Rana seems like

Positive: Amazing, secluded setting surrounded by jungle. The host Rana was incredibly helpful and went out of his way to make sure our stay was as good as possible, plus he was available to help us get to where we wanted to go in his Tuk Tuk for a very good price, as well as recommending places to go. Caring and trustworthy host and such a cool and unique stay and would highly recommend for anyone wanting to get away and into nature. Plus the breakfast was super fresh and tasty. We would definitely recommend this as a place to stay!

Negative: Amenities were basic but that was part of the charm and no problem for us.

Positive: Wow - this place exceeded our expectations. So far the best accomodation we had ! It's really like the photos. The view is amazing, the tree house is in the back of the garden and we feel totally alone. Rana is very welcoming and he is very generous. The food (we had dinner and the complimentary breakfast) was one of the best we've had in Sri Lanka. We highly recommend to eat there ! This place is perfectly located, only 20mins walk to Pidurangala rock, the alternative to Sigiriya. This place is a gem ! 100% recommended !

Positive: Rana the owner and builder of the homestay is top notch. He is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the local area and even a safari tour guide as well. The tree house has a huge deck pointed out towards the jungle and the wildlife, greenery, and sheet serenity is as peaceful as it gets. Cant give enough thanks. Wonderful time. And cant forget about the amazing breakfast and slam apple village tea.

Positive: Ideal place to be free with a beautiful environment. Dinner and breakfast with delicious food and drinks are very tasty. Although it is an elephant-friendly area, they can be easily seen by a high-rise area. I was able to spend my travel trip fun and beautiful. Thank you ; Ranjan (Rana Treehouse)
