Positive: The place has great atmosphere! It is super cozy and you can feel that the staff has thought through everything. The open-air bath was amazing and it's really great that all the baths are booked for private use so you can use it as a couple or even if you have tatoos. All the common areas were clean and had everything possible - the kitchen was very well equipped and it was no problem to cook a proper dinner if you had the ingredients. I was also presently surprised to see some plant-based curries among some products you can buy on site. They also have a shuttle bus to closest restaurants and information on their menu including notes on whether they have vegetarian menu. I was travelling alone and booked a bed in hostel-type room and it exceeded my expectations. The bed itself was pretty spacious, the room had a sink and a mirror and most of all I was glad to get a lot of space for my luggage as it is usually a problem in such rooms, but here I had more than I needed. The location is great even if you are travelling by public transport and perfect for a stay before going up Norikura Mountain. I would definitely like to stay here again and maybe I will come with my boyfriend next time.
Negative: I slept with the bed curtain open to have more fresh air, so maybe having some kind of ventilation in bed units would be great.
Summary: Great vibe!

Positive: onsen was good. private open air. pretty mountain location. hotel was hippy dippy an environmentally conscious. I liked having a private toilet in my room.
Negative: not sure. the outside was so run down looking I expected the inside to be trashy too. the inside is not trashy and its nice.
Summary: good mountain stay.

Positive: The set up was fantastic and well organized. One of our favorite parts was how kind the staff was!
Negative: Public transportation for guests, arriving by public transportation. You need to make sure you arrive in time for the last shuttle bus otherwise you will have to figure out how to get a taxi, which is more expensive and there are not a lot of taxis at the last train stop. The last bus is early afternoon.

Positive: - Welcoming but low key environment. Really friendly, enthusiastic staff. There to help when you need it but not pushy. Good with older folk like us, but we also witnessed great interactions with child guests and most patrons were twenty and thirty somethings) - Private Onsens - Commitment to operating sustainably. This property’s sustainability practices are beyond anything I have ever seen in any country. No green washing, but there’s nothing sanctimonious about them either (eg building design includes movement activated lighting, compost in the kitchen, garbage separated, no superfluous personal ammenities, milk available in medium sized bottles, as opposed to either very large cartons or in very small plastic vials as common elsewhere, food purchased locally) - so many thoughtful details (eg booking for local restaurants, a nightly drop off and pick up service to same) - trust (some additional services operate on an honour system. So refreshing in a world where trust is lacking) - outdoor equipment - bikes, snow boards) - property design (very peaceful, warm but simple decor). Design has a nice combination of group spaces but also private rooms with enough room to move! - great kitchen facilities - location. Absolutely beautiful scenery, and hiking, yet wonderful friendly restaurants nearby.
Negative: I am struggling to think of much! Free coffee from freshly ground beans was available in the communal Kitchen but if you like brewed coffee in your room you would need to take your own filter bags (there is a kettle in each room). This would only be an issue if you like a morning coffee before going out in public! Kurinori Kogan takes some time and stamina to reach (in our case from Takayama) and this might be a disincentive especially if you are travelling by public transportation. However, the journey itself is so picturesque and the PT is as reliable and comfortable (even in the off season) as it is in Japans more populous areas. Also, the area and this inn make the journey well worth while! Finally when we read the property website we got the sense that there was a need to bring food as local restaurants were not readily accessible. That was not our experience at all. We got great meals in walking distance or via Raicho’s drop off service. We were there between the ski season ending and the summer peak.
Summary: A great Onsen Inn in the amazing Japanese Alps!

Positive: The best hospitality I have ever come across. The staff there were extremely helpful and always willing to go out of their way just to fulfil your needs, be it dropping you off at the bus stop or reserving dinner for you. It was a very wholesome stay and I met some really nice people there!
Negative: None!
Summary: Will definitely come again!
