1 Bedroom Cabin in Moab

This is a lodge. There are four rooms. Two on the north side and two on the south. They each have their own entrance from the outside, own bathroom, microwave, and mini fridge. Common areas are kitchen, dining room, and living room but since Covid most people cook on the grills outside and eat at multiple outdoor locations. Room has a queen bed. Can add a roll a way but it's a little tight.
It's almost unbelievable. The river and beach are about a five minute walk out your door. Kayaks at the river. Three doubles and six singles. Side by sides, take you to the Wind Caves and Chicken Corner. Three to four hours for $250. Way less than the $700 they charge in town.. There are unlimited hikes from the property and many more near by.
There is so much wildlife it's hard to keep track of. In addition to the hundred or so birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that come to eat each day, there's the man himself, Kobae. Kobae is the 210 pound security tortoise that lives here and when he's not hanging out on the porch, or chowing down on romaine, he'll be looking for someone to go hiking with. With evening the front porch comes alive. Ringtail, skunk, fox, and raccoon all eat nightly either on or just off the front porch. You're welcome to hang out at the fire pit or sit in gravity chairs and view the night sky but many a guest has spent their evening watching all the critters that come to the porch.
The night sky, the incredible views, the critters, the side by side, the beach, the river, kayaking, Wind Caves, hiking, all here. Nobody else has what Base Camp has or even comes close. Worry about other parts of your trip but don’t worry about this part. I live here pretty much 24/7/365 and I’ve been sharing it with guests for nineteen years. You want an adventure, not just staying somewhere, you’ve found it.
Now, having said all that, it’s quiet, off the grid, and you want to get away, that’s here too. Some folks just sit on the porch and unwind, enjoying the landscape, watching the rafts and kayaks come down the river or finding a spot around the property to just sit and read. There’s no shortage of those spots. I’ve spent many a morning hiking out to a different place each day and reading.
Whatever you want to do, all you have to do is walk out the door. That’s special.
See you soon,
Tom

Summary: Scenery was second to none. Host Tom was knowledgable about the area and quite entertaining.

Summary: If you want to experience the views and trails of Moab without having to camp out, Tom’s place is a great option. The location is very remote but has so much around it to explore. The room we stayed in is sufficient for two and we spent a lot of time relaxing on the back porch enjoying the view of the Colorado River and the surrounding canyons. At night you can see the Milky Way. Tom is always around to offer wisdom of the area and suggestions. You should really do some research about “Hurrah Pass” before booking your stay here. This is the road/trail that you take to get from Moab to Basecamp. The road itself offers extraordinary views of the area but it is an Off-Road trail. I would recommend a 4x4; but as long as you have a high clearance vehicle you can -technically-navigate the trail (if you dare try this in anything else, you will damage your vehicle). You would be doing yourself a disservice if you rent/bring a 2WD small SUV in town and attempt to come out to Basecamp. Once you’re out there, you wouldn’t be able to do much exploring on the other trails the area has to offer. Get a Jeep in town so you can explore “Chicken Corners”. This is a great off-road trail that starts at Basecamp and follows the Colorado River south, with Wind Caves you can explore along the way. As long as you come prepared, I highly recommend the Basecamp for unforgettable adventures and memories.

Summary: Such an incredible stay, it’s hard to know where to start. Tom and everyone living at the property are so kind and attentive. Our stay felt like coming home to family. We rented a side-by-side from Tom and had the best day, we even took our dog out! Highly recommend staying/adventuring here, I miss it already.

Summary: I went through all of the reviews on this before booking. Lots of warnings about the road going in. That 3 miles close to the location takes over 45 minutes. I even contacted the manager of the property to ensure our Toyota Rav 4 with 8.5 in of ground clearance would be enough. I was told 6 would be enough. You want 9 or higher ideally a lifted vehicle. My spouse drove large vehicles in Iraq so it is not her skill but the degradation of the road that requires beyond a normal SUV or truck. This road is used by atvs, side by sides, motor bikes and vehicles. There is no separation. Due to that it is all sand and exposed bedrock. Our car repairs came out to 1500 total for the cracked shield and underbody damage. If you have something that is less than 9in of ground clearance do not book this. Wish someone was more specific about that especially when I directly asked. The fan and light were on one setting that could not be changed from a dead battery. When asked the manager about this I was directed to someone I was never introduced to and there was no follow up. The fridge is a great amount of space after being told that the chest freezer could be used there were reservations and we were told we should have enough space w our own fridge. It’s hot. If you can bring an evaporative cooler I would suggest it even in april/start of may. The owner was snarky right from the start and will be watching you closely. Disappointed not using Vrbo again.

Summary: Communications with and directions from Tom were great. Yes, the drive in was "interesting" (we drove a stock 4Runner), but we had no problems. Spent two nights, took several hikes and enjoyed the great views. Felt very welcome using the kitchen, porch, etc. Thanks!!

Summary: This city boy is not used to driving on a rocky jeep trail so it's a get there and stay place. However, it's made for just that. Hike the trails and mountains for the camp, gazing at stars on a very dark night, and chill with others there

Summary: I booked a weekend getaway for myself and this was the perfect spot! There's a lot to choose from, sit on the porch, hike, explore, socialize....or not! The room was great, with a comfortable bed. Just the right amount of rustic charm and the staff are exceptional. I'll be back!

Summary: A truly unique experience. Plus the rooms are cleaner and quieter than most hotels! We woke up to Bald Eagles and played disc golf all day. The whole family loved it.
