Positive: Easy access to center of Santillana

Negative: One of our last hotels at the end of our mini road trip around the area. Every hotel we’ve stayed in offers a bottle of water every day & some sort of coffee/tea making facility which this hotel did but decided to only offer it for one day which is quite unusual & mean, we would have been happy to pay extra for some coffee pods or granules Just seems petty penny pinching - look at the bigger picture!!!

Positive: We've stayed in many hotels in Spain - from simple one stars to five-star Paradores - so have a broad experience of what's good and what's not. Suffice to say we contemplated returning to Posada Spa San Marcos on our return journey from a tour of Spain. Had we not visited Santillana del Mar on two previous occasions it would be a definite. We opted for the Posada - rather than the attached hotel - from a fellow traveller's recommendation – and weren't disappointed. The Posada enjoys an adjacent private car park - so easy to move luggage to and fro. It's a five minute walk into the historic area of Santillana del Mar - even with my walking aid! Buffet breakfast was excellent, with everything we required being available - plus the option of a cooked breakfast on request– at no additional charge. The walk-in rain shower was a nice and welcome surprise. Having stayed at the Parador Gil Blas (smack bang in the middle of the difficult to navigate old town) on a prior trip, being on the edge of the town, proved much more relaxing. To cap it all, if you're a classic car or motorbike buff, the hotel's owner allows guests to view his admirable collection.

Negative: The only disappointment, which wasn’t a huge issue, the in-room coffee machine didn’t function too well.
