Positive: The property is beautiful and relaxing, and the staff are beyond attentive and accommodating! Truly outstanding service!!

Negative: The smell of incense was really strong in the 'living room' area of the house which was right outside our room, and the mattresses in our room needed to be replaced as they sag in the middle.

Summary: I would love to stay here again, but I would request a room outside of the main house.

Positive: Nearly everything was impressive. This place is phenomenal. Clean, quiet, welcoming. We wished we had more time to stay longer. The gentlemen who own/run this old church converted into a bed and breakfast are so attentive, patient, and communicative. They speak English, if needed (for Peregrinos), and are very responsive to in-app messages. Because this place is a few kilometers North of Palas de Rei and off the Camino path, they offer to pick you up from town and drop you off the next day (for a $10 Euro fee each way), which we thought was worth it as Peregrinos coming in from Portomarin, having hiked something like 25km over lots of hills and gravel roads that day. The rooms are HUGE, the size of studio apartments. Both rooms we booked had huge beds (probably equivalent to Cali King size) which were very soft and comfy. There were seating areas and reading nooks under each window in both rooms, giant armoires, and plenty of lighting options. The bathroom was huge and beautiful with a jet (Jacuzzi) tub and shower with rainfall shower head plus optional handheld shower head. Left nozzle turns the water on, right nozzle controls water temperature (in theory, lol). Communal dining and living areas are available to use, along with an outdoor seating/lounging area. On site gym with weights, treadmill, combination ab/pullup station, and a seat by the entrance with a leg massager. Many of the original elements were kept like the original stone wall exterior, large wooden bedroom doors with big metal latches, and such, which gave this place a historic feel. We loved it.

Negative: The shower/bath water temperature only had two options: 1) very hot, 2) scalding hot. No clue why only a trickle of water comes out when you turn the nozzle toward the colder temperatures. This didn't stop me from taking a bath to soak my tired, aching feet and legs after that day's hike from Portomarin.

Positive: We were excited for an unusual stay on our Camino trip. Pazo de Laia was wonderful in some respects - beautiful setting; historic farmhouse; delicious food; lovely animals; and a chance to hold a baby goat! The staff was wonderful (even if the proprietor was less accommodating). But the rooms were mis-marketed - e.g. we had two "hot tub" rooms reserved but that is not what we had when we arrived and that was apparently our fault. (Although the rooms were spacious with comfy mattresses and pretty views.) I believe the proprietors have improved their room descriptions and added more photos on Booking.com since our stay to be more accurate. Also, you are a captive audience when there. The food and especially the bottles of wine and other beverages were quite overpriced relative to our experience thus far on the Camino at nice hotels and restaurants. And, once you are at Pazo de Laia, you do not have options except for them. I would recommend that they do an "all-inclusive" price with room, a 2-course dinner and breakfast buffet / coffee and have reasonable prices for their bottles of wine to be attractive relative to Camino options. (Or encourage BYOB.) I believe this would help them welcome more Camino travelers to what is a unique stay, and - if we had had that package - I would have given them a 10/10. As it was, we had some disappointments. But the baby goats made up for a lot. :-)

Positive: Amazing country retreat and beautiful location. Great that the owner picked us up from the centre of town and dropped us back again to pick up where we left off on the Camino. However, didn't have an early breakfast or drop off option, so we started the Camino longest leg much later and as a result, it was a really hard and hot day, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, wonderful place!

Positive: The staff was totally awesome and really went above and beyond. It is a quirky property but fun. There are animals on the property from horses to goats and sheep. The chef is amazing as are the rest of the kitchen stuff. The food was very very good. They even have a theater in the house or you can pick a movie to watch. We never made it there since the dinner conversation was totally enthralling and kept us up late.
