Positive: The location on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug is great. The grounds of the estate are wonderful. You can take nice walks. The staff is very kind. Breakfast was very nice. We enjoyed it, and felt the 35 euro per person was okay.

Negative: The hotel itself lacks facilities; the two restaurants are good, but booked up. Voltaire, a Michelin star restaurant and Lof, a bistro. The staff arranged dinner at the bistro. This was nice. The beautiful grand spaces and halls in the main building are empty, and reserved for events. So, there is no place for hotel guests to lounge, hang out and experience the main building which is the key attraction and reason to spend the night. There is a very small bar on the groubdfloor. When we asked for a place to have a drink at the end of the day after a walk we were directed to the bar. This was empty, we asked to sit on the deserted terrace, and there was a discussion whether this was allowed, since it was reserved for guests of Voltaire. Finally it was okay. It all felt like very little 4/5 star service. In such a place you expect to be pampered all the way. Not a luxury hospitality experience, more like a very nice bed and breakfast. The room was small with a basic interior. Very small window, in the ceiling. Expensive given the overall experience.

Positive: The whole area and staff, it's all perfect. Very friendly and helpful.

Negative: After booking, it was noted that the restaurant was closed but afterwards they called us to inform. That was very nice and they suggested other places in the area.

Positive: We were looking for small town, countryside,quiet experience. This place is amazing. We were greeted by the friendliest staff. They were ALL so helpful. Ghislaine, one of the property hosts welcomed us and showed us around and gave great suggestions. She made us feel like we knew her forever. We can’t wait to go back. The experience and ambience at Voltaire restaurant is unforgettable. It was amazing. Every bit worth it. We loved it.

Negative: There was nothing not to like.

Positive: Dinner was terrific, as I would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. The sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and we took the opportunity to taste wines that we had never heard of. We had a room upgrade to a room in the main building rather than the coach house, which was welcome as it rained for most of our stay.

Negative: Breakfast was very disappointing. Unfortunately I suffer from several allergies, including gluten. Sadly, breakfast did not accommodate my allergies, except for some sorry gluten free bread, which was served again the following day, by which time it was thoroughly stale. Breakfast was served in the same Michelin star restaurant as dinner, but while dinner had been excellent, breakfast was nowhere close, and the hotel should not have charged 35 euros for such a disappointing meal

Summary: Great room, fantastic dinner, shame about the breakfast which was nowhere near as nice.
